Robin McIntosh

It is with great sadness that I report the passing of Robin McIntosh over the weekend.

A proud Manxman, he had been receiving treatment for cancer in recent years and died in hospital in Warrington.

He played in the early years of the Ormskirk League at the Railway Tavern in Hoscar.

In 1980 Red Lion (Newburgh) joined the League, becoming Newburgh Lions the following year.

In recent years Robin took the post of Results Secretary producing a detailed statistical analysis of all matches and compiling the highlights for this site.

Robin is in seat three of the team on the left in this photograph.

The words of Joe O'Connor are a fine tribute - "We all knew him of course, some of us for over forty years. We shall miss him as a doughty competitor always striving to win, but more as an old friend ready to talk and to help".

Robin's funeral will be held on Friday January 3rd. The service is at 2pm at Charnock Richard  crematorium, followed by a celebration of Robin's life at 3.00pm at Christ Church Newburgh, then refreshments at the Red LIon.  Family flowers only, but donations welcome to Douglas Valley Lions, a cause for whom Robin worked tirelessly.
