Handicap Knockout Round 1

Turks Head Saints, thanks to 16 from Barbara Flaherty, overcame a deficit of 15 to win comfortably against Legion Lions. Despite 18 from Pat Gibson and 16 from Mike Unsworth, Colly Wobblers never looked likely to overcome the 11 point start given to Ormskirk Tennis Club, all of whose players registered double figure scores led by Paul Prior with 16.  23 points from Janet Crompton greatly aided Squigglers’ win over Ormskirk Farmers; Squigglers won by 8 having given their opponents a 12 point start. 17 points from Jim Dawber wasn’t enough for Bispham Farmers Arms to hold on to a 23 point start against Turks Head Sinners, for whom Bill Gerrard scored 21.  Unison, thanks to 18 from Alan Gibbs, overturned a 12 point handicap against Newburgh Lions who only fielded two players, one of whom, Dave Sinclair, scored 23. Robin Hood won by a single point against Ormskirk Theatre Company having given them a 13 point start; Paul Coffey scored 15 for the winners. Despite 16 points from David Hodgson, Rugby Hounds were unable to claw back the 25 point start given to Aughton Institute. 18 points from Debbie Davidson and 17 from Gordon Richards helped Whippet overturn a 16 point handicap against Benchwarmers, for whom Rob Green scored 15. Helenians comfortably caught Gang of Four’s 7 point start winning by 16 points.
