The inaugural Pairs Competition was held at the Upmarket Theatre in Ormskirk with an entry of 30 players split into two groups of 15 by 2-point average scores. A blind draw was made to establish the pairs.
The pairs completed a 40 question round 1 giving written answers. The scores ranged from 25 to 38.
The six highest scoring pairs qualified for the semi final. A 15 to 1 format was used with 63 questions needed to reduce this to three finalists. The unlucky pairs were Janet Crompton and Mike Flaherty, Charles Johnson and Jess McAteer, Paul Prior and Andy McGowan.
The final was won after 38 questions by Pat Gibson and Clive Walton. The other finalists were Darren Martin and Tony Robinson, Bill Gerrard and Francis Williams.
Many thanks to the members of the Ormskirk Theatre Company for their assistance throughout the evening.
