President’s Trophy

Ormskirk were victorious in their final two matches of the season. In the first match Ormskirk 55 Warrington 39 included 28 points and a full house from Pat Gibson. In the second match Ormskirk 45 Wirral 35 included 18 from Pat. Liverpool have won the Trophy with Ormskirk in second place.

Final week of league season

With one week left the Division One title is still open with Colly Wobblers one point ahead of Greyhound, with a hefty points difference advantage. Abbey Saints have won Division Two due to Gang of Four losing last week. The Handicap League could have joint winners with Ormskirk Theatre Company one point ahead of Ormskirk Farmers who are also one point ahead of Colly Wobblers. 

Highlights Week 17

Division 1:- Colly Wobblers remain top after their win over Ormskirk Tennis Club; Pat Gibson (20) and Mike Unsworth (19) scored well for the winners while Paul Prior replied with 15 points for the Tennis Club.  Greyhound are in second place after their victory over Whippet and remain only one point  behind - so the title will go to the wire; John Wilson scored an impressive 25 points for the winners.  17 points from Darren Martin helped Unison to victory over Helenians. Despite 16 from Barbara Phillips, Robin Hood lost narrowly to Squigglers, for whom Janet Crompton scored 15. 21 and 19 points from Jim Maloney and John Purslow greatly helped Newburgh Lions’ win over Rugby Hounds.

Division 2 :- An impressive 21 points from Francis Williams enabled Abbey Sinners’ win over Aughton Institute. Ormskirk Farmers, for whom Gerrard Molyneux scored 13, had a comfortable win over Legion Lions, who only fielded three players. Despite 22 points from Jim Dawber Parbold Exiles lost to Ormskirk Theatre Company for whom Alan Thompson scored 19. 18 points from Rob Green and 15 from Mike Wall played a large part in Benchwarmers win over Gang of Four.

MIMIR local competition

The Ormskirk local heat of the MIMIR (individual) competition will take place at The Greyhound in Ormskirk on 7th February starting at 8pm. Anyone wishing to enter please let me know by e-mail or phone (these details can be found in the handbook) between noon on Thursday 25th January and noon on Sunday 28th January.The entry will be restricted to 16 players. The top 6 players will then be eligible to enter the Merseyside competition in March.
