Highlights Week 8

Division 1 :- Turks Head Sinners surrendered top place after losing to Colly Wobblers; Mike Unsworth scored 20 for the winners and Bill Gerrard 16 for the Sinners. Unison regained top spot after a comfortable win over Robin Hood; Darren Martin (18) and Charles Johnson (17) scored well for the winners. Greyhound, all of whose players scored in double figures, overcame Scarecrows for whom Barry Marshall scored 17. Despite 21 points from Eric Lupton Rugby Hounds lost to Newburgh Lions, for whom David Sinclair scored 22.

Division 2 :- Ormskirk Tennis Club remain top after drawing with Aughton Institute; Sarah Lawton scored 14 for the Tennis Club and Dave Berrington added 16 to Aughton's score. Turks Head Saints are second after their win over Ormskirk Theatre Company; Barbara Flaherty (13) and Kevin Walton (12) top scored for the winners while Gordon Richards (18) and Alan Thompson (17) did likewise for the Theatre Company.  Benchwarmers and Bispham Eagles played a double header with each team winning one of the games. In the scheduled game Benchwarmers won narrowly with Mike Wall scoring 12 for the winners and Jim Dawber doing likewise for Bispham. In the postponed game Bispham won narrowly. Jim Dawber again top scoring with 13 and Rob Green scoring 14 for Benchwarmers. Helenians beat Hayfield Gang despite 15 points from Rob Jones.

Highlights Week 7

Division 1 :- Turks Head Sinners beat Robin Hood and as a result assume top spot in the table;  Peter Duffy scored 17 for the winners as did Paul McAteer for Robin Hood. Unison, for whom Darren Martin and Charles Johnson both scored 16, lost to Rugby Hounds, whose top scorer was Eric Lupton with 19 points.  A remarkable 24 points and another full house from John Wilson was a major factor in Greyhound’s win over Newburgh Lions, for whom David Sinclair scored 17. 15 points from Barry Marshall helped Scarecrows overcome Colly Wobblers, for whom Mike Unsworth scored 19.

Division 2 :- Ormskirk Tennis Club return to the top after their comfortable win over Turks Head Saints, thanks mainly to an impressive 25 points from Paul Prior; Clive Walton scored 12 for the Saints. 13 points from Mike Wall helped Benchwarmers overcome Aughton Institute. Despite 16 points from Matt Cochrane, Hayfield Gang lost to Ormskirk Theatre Company, for whom Alan Thompson scored 16 and Gordon Richards 14.

President's Shield

Ormskirk began their defence with two wins beating Liverpool 2b 46-44 and Wirral 50-42. Bill Gerrard scored 19 points in each match with Peter Duffy adding 16 in the first match.

Highlights Week 6

Division 1 :- Unison retain top spot after a comfortable win over Newburgh Lions;  Charles Johnson (17) and Darren Martin (16) scored well for the winners while David Sinclair added 15 to Newburgh’s score.  Turks Head Sinners are in second place after their win over Rugby Hounds; Bill Gerrard scored an impressive 21 points for the winners. 18 points from Paul McAteer helped Robin Hood overcome Scarecrows. An excellent 21 points and a full house from John Wilson earned Greyhound the narrowest of victories over Colly Wobblers, for whom Andy McGowan scored 16. 

Division 2 :- Ormskirk Tennis Club lost their first game of the season so far, going down to Hayfield Gang and as a result relinquish top spot to Turks Head Saints. Turks Head Saints remain unbeaten after their win over Benchwarmers; Kevin Walton (16) and Barbara Flaherty (14) top scored for the winners. 18 points from Jim Dawber earned Bispham Eagles their first win of the season by beating Aughton Institute. Helenians drew with Ormskirk Theatre Company; Alan Thompson (14) top scored for the Theatre Company and Bob Foster (12) did likewise for Helenians. 

Merseyside Challenge Cup

Three Ormskirk teams have entered. They are placed in different groups for the round robin stage.

Colly Wobblers beat Bishop Eton (Liverpool) 47-37 with 20 points from Pat Gibson. Unison began the defence of the Cup with a defeat 41-44 by Oxton Cons (Wirral) despite 15 from Darren Martin. Greyhound were also beaten in a close match by Cricketers (Liverpool) 46-48 with John Wilson scoring 19.
