Highlights Week 10

Division 1 :-  In the top of the table clash Greyhound, for whom John Wilson scored 19, beat Turks Head Sinners and strengthened their position at the top of the table.  Despite 18 points from Janet Crompton, Scarecrows lost to Unison, who move into second place.  In a close game throughout, Colly Wobblers emerged victorious against Newburgh Lions. 17 points from Sue Perks and 16 from Mike Preston greatly helped Robin Hood to a win over Rugby Hounds, for whom Eric Lupton scored 15.

Division 2 :- Ormskirk Tennis Club stay top after beating Bispham Eagles; Paul Prior (14), Sarah Lawton (13) and Keith Mountain (13) scored well for the winners. Turks Head Saints consolidated second place with a win over Hayfield Gang; Barbara Flaherty (17), Kevin Walton (14) and Clive Walton (13) top scored for the winners while Matt Cochrane and Rob Jones both scored 12 for the Gang. Ormskirk Theatre Company had a comfortable victory over Benchwarmers; Alan Thompson (17), Gordon Richards (15) and Lynn Hawkes (12) top scored for the Theatre Company while Mike Wall added 14 points to Benchwarmers score. Helenians, thanks to 16 points each from Bob Foster and Mike Flaherty beat Aughton Institute.

Darren Martin is in the semi final which will be broadcast tomorrow at 3pm on BBC Radio 4.

Merseyside Challenge Cup

All three Ormskirk teams won their matches comfortably. Colly Wobblers remain unbeaten, after a 58-32 win against Aigburth People (LIverpool). Leading scorers were Pat Gibson (20) and Mike Unsworth (15). Greyhound beat Grappenhall Gadlings (Warrington) 45-40 with 19 points from John Wilson. Unison beat Duncan's Doughnuts (Liverpool) 55-30, with Darren Martin scoring 19 and Alan Gibbs 17. The next matches will be played on December 14.

Highlights Week 9

Division 1 :- Greyhound assume top place after their win over Rugby Hounds; John Wilson (20) and Mal Collier (16) scored well for the winners.  18 points from Paul McAteer was a significant contribution to Robin Hood’s winning score against Newburgh Lions. 19 points from Bill Gerrard and 16 from Peter Duffy helped Turks Head Sinners overcome Scarecrows, for whom Janet Crompton scored 18. Unison had a very comfortable win over Colly Wobblers; Alan Gibbs (20), Charles Johnson (15) and Darren Martin (15) scored well for the winners, while Mike Unsworth added 18 to the losers’ score. 

Division 2 :- Ormskirk Tennis Club remain top after their win over Benchwarmers; Paul Prior scored 19 for the winners and Rob Green added 13 to Benchwarmers score. 14 points from Andrew Sackville and 13 from Rob Jones helped Hayfield Gang to a victory over Bispham Eagles. Turks Head Saints remain in second place despite losing narrowly to Helenians; Kevin Walton (15) and Barbara Flaherty (13) top scored for the Saints while Mike Flaherty (13) and Bob Foster (12) did likewise for the winners. Hayfield Gang, thanks to 14 points from Andrew Sackville, overcame Bispham Eagles.

Highlights Week 2 (Postponed games)

Division 1 :- These games were postponed from 19th September because of the late Queen’s funeral.  Despite 17 points from Paul McAteer, Robin Hood lost to Newburgh Lions; Jim Maloney (17) and David Sinclair (15) scored well for the winners.  17 points from Bill Gerrard enabled Turks Head Sinners’ win over Scarecrows.  Despite 16 points from Charles Johnson, Unison lost to Colly Wobblers, for whom Mike Unsworth scored 21. Greyhound beat Rugby Hounds with John Wilson scoring 20 for the winners and Eric Lupton also adding 20 points to Rugby Hounds score. 

Division 2 :- An impressive 21 points from Paul Prior helped Ormskirk Tennis Club to a comfortable win over Benchwarmers, for whom Rob Green scored 15.  Despite 17 points from Rob Jones Hayfield Gang lost to Bispham Eagles; Jim Dawber scoring 12 for the winners.  In the other game Turks Head Saints beat Helenians.
