Ormskirk won one and lost one of their final two matches, completing the season as runner up to Wirral, both teams winning six of their eight matches, separated only by a points difference of 26 against 41.

In the first match Warrington were beaten 40-35 led by 21 points from Bill Gerrard. The second match resulted in a 40-49 defeat to Liverpool 2a.

Highlights Week 21

Division 1 :- In the final scheduled round of matches, the title was decided when Greyhound beat Colly Wobblers by 20 points  and Unison beat Newburgh Lions by 19 points, which means Greyhound are champions by virtue of a higher points difference, so congratulations to them. In Greyhound’s match, high scorers were John Wilson (17) and Ritchie Venner (16); all the Greyhound team scored in double figures. In Unison’s match again all their players scored in double figures with Charles Johnson (16) and Dave Kenrick (15) leading the scoring. Robin Hood finish third after their win over Turks Head Sinners; Paul McAteer scored 16 for the winners and Peter Duffy 15 for the Sinners. At the bottom of the table Rugby Hounds overcame Scarecrows who finish in bottom place; Tony Robinson (15) and Eric Lupton (16) scored well for Rugby Hounds while Janet Crompton added an impressive 21 points to Scarecrows’ score.

Division 2 :- In the title decider Turks Head Saints beat Ormskirk Tennis Club to take the title, so congratulations to them. Kevin Walton scored 14 for the winners, while Paul Prior added 15 to the Tennis Club’s score. 16 points from Rob Green wasn’t enough to earn Benchwarmers a win over Hayfield Gang, for whom Andrew Sackville scored 13.  Bispham Eagles overcame Aughton Institute; Dave Lyons scoring 13 for the winners. 14 points from Alan Thompson assured Ormskirk Theatre Company’s victory over Helenians, for whom Mike Flaherty scored 12.

Mimir Competition

The Ormskirk heat of the Mimir Competition was held tonight at The Greyhound. In the final David Hodgson emerged as the clear winner on 17 points. Joint second on 12 points each were John Wilson, Alan Gibbs and Eric Lupton. Thanks for all these who attended and especially those who officiated.  Further details can be found here

Presentation Evening

A Pairs Competition will take place on Monday April 3 at Aughton Institute. This will form part of the revived Presentation Evening. All players and friends are welcome to attend. 

Highlights Week 20

Division 1 :- 17 points from Sue Perks helped Robin Hood (who managed 3 full house rounds) overcome Greyhound, for whom John Wilson scored 16; Greyhound remain top on points difference. Unison, thanks to16 points each from Alan Gibbs and Darren Martin beat Rugby Hounds, for whom David Hodgson scored 15. 16 points from Bill Gerrard was a significant factor in Turks Head Sinners’ victory over Scarecrows; Janet Crompton scored 15 for Scarecrows. Colly Wobblers, thanks to 16 points from Roy Atherton and 17 from Mike Unsworth, beat Newburgh Lions and hang on to third place. Next week the title will be decided as Greyhound and Unison are both on 32 points and separated by 8 in the point difference column; also the bottom two (Rugby Hounds and Scarecrows) play each other and the loser will finish bottom.

Division 2 :- In a very close game Ormskirk Theatre Company beat Ormskirk Tennis Club; Paul Prior scored 18 for the Tennis Club and Alan Thompson 12 for the winners. Despite 12 points each from Alf Westwell and Mike Flaherty, Helenians lost to Aughton Institute for whom Brian Davies also scored 12. Next week the top two teams, Turks Head Saints and Ormskirk Tennis Club, who are separated by a point, play each other in what could be a title decider.
