Bill Gerrard (Abbey Sinners) appeared on the ITV quiz show The Chase on Thursday. He answered seven questions correctly to add £7000 to the team total. Unfortunately the team did not answer enough questions in the Final Chase and were comfortably beaten by The Beast.

The Ormskirk team of Bill Gerrard and Francis Williams (Abbey Sinners), Alf Westwell (Helenians) and Alan Thompson (Ormskirk Theatre Company) won their first two matches of the season. Good all-round scoring helped to beat Liverpool 2A by one point, 46-45 and Wirral by three points, 44-41.

Division 1:- In the first clash of the season between last season's top two, Greyhound players answered 27 of their 32 questions for two points leading to 16 including a full house for Mal Collier and 15 for Andy Francis. Pat Gibson scored 19 also with a full house in reply for defeated Colly Wobblers. All the Unison players scored double digits led by Darren Martin with 18 in their victory against Squigglers for whom Janet Crompton contributed 15. In a match of three-a-side Helenians led by Dave Boyd with 21 and Alf Westwell with 17 beat Whippet. Abbey Saints beat Ormskirk Tennis Club by 3 points led by Kevin Walton with 15. Phil McConnell score 19 in reply.
Division 2:- Gang of Four beat Ormskirk Farmers with the help of 12 points from Rob Jones - Phil Roberts scoring 13 for the losers. Adrian Disley's 20 points was the highest tally in the division this week, but it wasn't quite enough for Legion Lions to overcome Ormskirk Theatre Company. Eric Lupton with 18 and Tony Robinson with 14 on his debut for the team contributed greatly to the Rugby Hounds score in the win against Bispham Farmers Arms for whom Dave Cockram scored 17.

An Ormskirk team of Alan Gibbs and Madeline Evans (Unison), Paul Prior (Ormskirk Tennis Club), Alan Thompson (Ormskirk Theatre Company) and David Hodgson (Rugby Hounds) finished in sixth place out of the seventeen teams representing MQL and other quiz leagues from England and Wales. Ormskirk were the second best MQL team behind winners Liverpool.
Alan Gibbs won the Award for the highest scoring individual ahead of some excellent quiz players.

Division 1 :- 16 points each from Gary Grant and Pat Gibson helped Colly Wobblers overcome Abbey Saints. Remarkably Newburgh Lions, with only two players - Colin Shaw (19) and David Sinclair (21) managed to beat Helenians. 15 points apiece from Darren Martin and Alan Gibbs enabled Unison’s win over Whippet. Robin Hood lost to Ormskirk Tennis Club, thanks to 16 from Sarah Lawton. Greyhound had a thumping win over Squigglers; Ritchie Venner (20 plus a ‘full house’). Mal Collier (19) and John Wilson (16) led the scoring for Greyhound.
Division 2 :- Abbey Sinners, for whom Francis Williams scored 19 and Bill Gerrard 16, overcame Ormskirk Farmers. Despite 15 points from Steve Garrett, Legion Lions lost narrowly to Bispham Farmers Arms (formerly Parbold Exiles) for whom Jim Dawber scored 12. Rugby Hounds, thanks to 16 from David Hodgson and 12 from Colin MacDonald, began life in division two with a win over Gang of Four for whom Andrew Sackville scored 13. Aughton Institute lost to Ormskirk Theatre Company where Alan Thompson contributed 18 to his team’s score.
