The draw for the local heat of the MIMIR competition was made last night by members of the Robin Hood quiz team. It emerged as follows:-

Division 1 :- 19 points from Darren Martin and double figure scores from the rest of the team enabled Unison’s victory over Robin Hood; Unison remain top as a result. Greyhound are in second place after their win over Helenians; John Wilson (18) and Mal Collier (17) scored well for the winners. Despite 17 points from Jim Maloney, Newburgh Lions lost narrowly to Abbey Saints for whom Barbara Flaherty scored 15. An impressive 21 points from Janet Crompton wasn’t quite enough for Squigglers to overcome Colly Wobblers; Pat Gibson scored 15 for the winners. Ormskirk Tennis Club and Whippet drew their game; Phil McConnell scored 16 for the Tennis Club and Debbie Davidson 18 for Whippet
Division 2 :- Abbey Sinners reclaimed top spot after their win over Aughton Institute; Bill Gerrard (19) and Francis Williams (17) scored well for the winners while John Hesketh replied with 17 for Aughton. Despite 15 points from Dave Cockram, Bispham Farmers Arms lost to Ormskirk Theatre Company, Alan Thompson scoring 12 for the winners. 14 points from Steve Garrett wasn’t enough for Legion Lions who lost to Ormskirk Farmers. 18 from Rob Jones and15 from Andrew Sackville helped Gang of Four overcome Benchwarmers.

Division 1 :- In the top of the table clash, Unison emerged victorious by a single point and hence assume top position on points difference; in a game where all eight players registered double figure scores, John Wilson (17) was Greyhound’s highest scorer and Darren Martin (15) was Unison’s. Janet Crompton’s 23 points was a major factor in Squiggler’s win over Robin Hood for whom Tom Evans scored17; and so after going winless for 11 games, Squigglers have won three of the last four. Ormskirk Tennis Club won by the narrowest of margins over Newburgh Lions; Paul Prior scoring 17 for the Tennis Club and Jim Maloney also scoring 17 for Newburgh. Helenians lost to Abbey Saints, thanks to Kevin Walton and Barbara Flaherty who both scored 15 for the Saints. Despite 19 points from Debbie Davidson Whippet lost to Colly Wobblers; Pat Gibson (16) and Mike Unsworth (19) led the scoring for the winners.
Division 2 :- Rugby Hounds regained top spot on points difference after a thumping win over a three man Legion Lions; Eric Lupton scored an impressive 23 points for Rugby Hounds. A remarkable 27 points and full house from Bill Gerrard helped Abbey Sinners to a comfortable win over Benchwarmers. Gang of Four beat Ormskirk Theatre Company thanks to 14 points from Rob Jones while Alan Thompson contributed 13 to the Theatre Company’s score. In the other game Ormskirk Farmers beat Aughton Institute.

The Ormskirk MIMIR (individual competition) will take place at The Greyhound in Ormskirk on Wednesday 6th February at 8pm sharp. If you wish to enter, could you let me know by e-mail or phone - individual entries only (no block team entries) please. The window for entries is between noon on Wednesday 23rd January and 6pm Monday 28th January. I will do the draw after our game against Robin Hood on the 28th and I will publish it the following day. As in previous years entries are restricted to the first 16 to apply. Anyone finishing in the top 6 will then be eligible for the Merseyside MIMIR competition on the 20th March. Could you please pass on this information to all your team members.
