Ormskirk won both matches on the first evening of play. In the first match Wirral were beaten 53-40, Pat Gibson scoring 22 including a full house and John Wilson 16. In the second match Ormskirk beat Southport & Formby 49-37, Pat Gibson scoring 17.

Despite 16 points from Charles Johnson, Turks Head Saints lost to Colly Wobblers, for whom Andy McGowan scored 14 and Mike Unsworth 15; on handicap the result was a draw. An excellent 19 points from Alan Thompson earned Ormskirk Theatre Company a victory over Hayfield Gang, for whom Ann Frank scored 12; the Theatre Company also won on handicap. 18 points from Jim Maloney and 12 from Darren Martin ensured Newburgh Lions’ win over Scarecrows, for whom Barry Marshall scored 15; Scarecrows won on handicap however. 14 points from Paul McAteer earned the Delph Tavern a win over Turks Head Sinners; the Delph also won on handicap. Rugby Hounds won the day against Benchwarmers, thanks to 13 points from David Hodgson. 13 points each from Ritchie Venner and Lynne Ashcroft earned Greyhound a draw with Helenians, for whom Alf Westwell scored 14; however the handicap result was a win for Helenians.

Congratulations to Lee Whitehead (Turks Head Sinners) who won the Final with his partner Dag Griffiths (S&F). The other finalists were Alan Thompson (Ormskirk Theatre Company) with Graham Barker (Liverpool) and David Hodgson (Rugby Hounds) with Angela Doyle (Liverpool).
Bill Gerrard (Turks Head Sinners) won the Plate Final with his partner Tony Gannon (Liverpool).
There were thirty entrants of whom twelve were from Ormskirk.

Despite 14 points from Janet Crompton and 13 from Barry Marshall, Scarecrows lost to Colly Wobblers for whom Andy McGowan scored 14 and Mike Unsworth 16; as a result Colly Wobblers return to the top of the table but lost the match on Handicap scores. Rugby Hounds, thanks to 15 points from David Hodgson and 12 each from Bruce Covey and Colin MacDonald, won their first match of the season, beating Newburgh Lions for whom Darren Martin scored 19; Rugby Hounds also won on handicap. Helenians also won their first game of the season thanks to 12 points each from Mike Flaherty, Alf Westwell and Phil Collins, beating Benchwarmers for whom Rob Green scored 12; Helenians also won on handicap. In the Turks Head derby, Saints thanks to an impressive 23 points from Charles Johnson and 16 from Barbara Flaherty beat the Sinners, for whom Bill Gerrard scored 14 and Tony Spark 12; the Saints also won on handicap. The Delph Tavern, thanks to 14 from Tom Evans, beat Hayfield Gang for whom Rob Jones scored 15; however Hayfield Gang won on handicap scores. Greyhound, with Brian Farrimond and Peter Gateley both scoring 14 and Pat Stephens 12, won the day against Ormskirk Theatre Company, for whom Alan Thompson scored 15; however the Theatre Company won on handicap.

In a game which, up until the last round, was very close, Colly Wobblers, thanks to 12 points from Andy McGowan and 15 from Mike Unsworth, ran out winners over Rugby Hounds, for whom Eric Lupton scored 16. Colly Wobblers also won on handicap. 16 points from Ritchie Venner and 13 from Brian Farrimond, enabled Greyhound’s win over The Delph Tavern; the handicap result remained the same. An impressive 20 points from Darren Martin earned Newburgh Lions a victory over Benchwarmers, who won on handicap score however. As a result Newburgh Lions assume top spot on points difference. 16 points from Charles Johnson wasn’t enough for Turks Head Saints to overcome Hayfield Gang, who also won on handicapped scores: leading scorers for Hayfield were Ann Frank (13) and Rob Jones and Martin Burke who both scored 12. 15 points from Gordon Richards helped Ormskirk Theatre Company to a win over Helenians, for whom Mike Flaherty scored 12; the Theatre Company also won on handicap.
