Greyhound lost their first game of the season to Rugby Hounds, all of whose players scored in double figures led by an impressive 21 points from Eric Lupton; Brian Farrimond (14) and Lynn Ashcroft (13) top scored for Greyhound. An outstanding 22 points and full house from Peter Duffy and 12 from Bill Gerrard assured Turks Head Sinners’ win over Helenians; the Sinners also won on handicap. Delph Tavern, for whom Paul McAteer scored 14 and Sue Perks 15, overcame Scarecrows whose top scorers were Barry Marshall (13) and Janet Crompton (15); the Delph also won on handicap. An excellent 19 points from Rob Jones helped Hayfield Gang earn a much needed win over Turks Head Saints, for whom Charles Johnson scored 15; Hayfield also won on handicap. Despite an excellent 20 points from Gordon Richards and 14 from Alan Thompson, Ormskirk Theatre Company lost to Colly Wobblers, for whom Roy Atherton and Andy McGowan both scored 13 and Mike Unsworth 17. The Theatre Company won on handicap score however

The second set of matches in the group stage saw both Ormskirk teams remain unbeaten. Colly Wobblers beat Fishermen's Rest (S&F) 54-32. All four players achieved double figure scores led by Pat Gibson, 17, and Mike Unsworth, 15, enabling the team to qualify for the knockout stage with one match remaining. Greyhound drew 41-41 with Soapsuds (Wirral).

Newburgh Lions’ unbeaten run finally came to an end at the hands of Greyhound, who themselves preserve their 100% record and assume top spot. John Wilson (17), Ritchie Venner (16) and Brian Farrimond (12) scored well for the winners while Jim Maloney (18) did likewise for Newburgh. Despite 13 points each from Eric Lupton and David Hodgson, Rugby Hounds lost to Colly Wobblers. Sue Perks scored an impressive 20 points for Delph Tavern in their narrowest of wins over Ormskirk Theatre Company, for whom Gordon Richards scored14 and Alan Thompson 12; the Theatre Company won on handicap. Hayfield Gang, for whom Martin Burke scored 16 and Ann Frank 12, earned a much needed win over Helenians with Bob Foster scoring 14 for the losing team; Hayfield Gang also won on handicap. Despite a remarkable 22 points from Barry Marshall, Scarecrows lost to Turks Head Sinners, for whom Bill Gerrard and Arthur Heyes both scored 14 and Francis Williams 12; Turks Head Sinners also won on handicap.

Newburgh Lions remain unbeaten and top of the league after their win over Colly Wobblers; Jim Maloney (17) and Darren Martin (15) top scored for the winners while Roy Atherton (14) and Mike Unsworth (15) did likewise for the losers. Also unbeaten, Greyhound beat Turks Head Saints despite 18 points from Charles Johnson and 13 from Barbara Flaherty; Ritchie Venner (15) and John Wilson (14) led the scoring for the winners. Delph Tavern, thanks to 17 points from Sue Perks, 14 from Tom Evans and 12 from Paul McAteer, earned a welcome win over Rugby Hounds, for whom David Hodgson and Colin McDonald both scored 13; The Delph also won on handicap scores. An impressive 21 points from Janet Crompton and 16 from Barry Marshall ensured Scarecrows’ victory over Ormskirk Theatre Company for whom Alan Thompson and Gordon Richards both scored 13; Scarecrows also won on handicap. An excellent 20 points from Bill Gerrard and 17 from Francis Williams continued Turks Head Sinners’ revival with a win over Hayfield Gang, for whom Rob Jones and Martin Burke both scored 13; however Hayfield won on handicap.

Ormskirk won two closely contested matches on their first night in the defence of the Trophy, having sat out the first night as question setters. In the first match Wirral were beaten 48-46 with 26 points including a full house from Pat Gibson. In the second match Southport & Formby were beaten 51-48 with 20 from Pat Gibson and 15 from John Wilson.
