Highlights Week 20

Division 1 :- Newburgh Lions remain top after a comfortable win over Turks Head Sinners; Darren Martin scored an impressive 23 points, Jim Maloney (14) and Gareth Flynn (12) for the winners, while Peter Duffy (20) did likewise for the Sinners. As a result Newburgh Lions are champions, whatever the outcome of next week’s game between the top two, so many congratulations to them on winning their first division one championship in their long forty plus year history.  Despite 15 points each from Sarah Lawton and Ritchie Venner, Greyhound lost to Colly Wobblers for whom Mike Unsworth scored 23. 19 points from Eric Lupton earned Rugby Hounds a win over Delph Tavern, who only fielded two players both of whom scored well - Paul McAteer (22) and Mike Preston (13). All match results were unchanged after handicaps were applied. 

Division 2:- Turks Head Saints are champions with one match remaining, so congratulations to them. They won their penultimate game beating Helenians, thanks to an excellent 21 points from Charles Johnson and 12 points from Kevin Walton, while Mike Flaherty added 13 to Helenians score. An impressive  20 points from Gordon Richards earned Ormskirk Theatre Company the narrowest of wins over Scarecrows, for whom Janet Crompton scored an equally impressive 20 points and Barry Marshall 14. Hayfield Gang had a comfortable win over Benchwarmers; Rob Jones (15), Ann Frank (13) and Matt Cochrane (12) scored well for the winners, while Rob Green added 12 to Benchwarmers score.The results of these games were unchanged after handicaps were applied. 

President's Shield

Ormskirk have won the MQL President's Shield. In the final evening of matches Warrington were beaten 54-35. Peter Duffy top scored with 18 followed by Eric Lupton with 17. The second match saw a defeat to Liverpool 2a by 44-50.

Congratulations to captain Alan Thompson (Ormskirk Theatre Company), Eric Lupton (Rugby Hounds), Andy McGowan (Colly Wobblers) and Peter Duffy and Francis Williams (Turks Head Sinners).

Highlights Week 19

Division 1 :- Newburgh Lions remain top after their narrow victory over Greyhound; leading scorers were Darren Martin 22 (and a full house) and Jim Maloney (15) for Newburgh, while Ritchie Venner (16), and Brian Farrimond and Peter Gateley each scored 13 for Greyhound. Greyhound won on handicap however.   Colly Wobblers assume second place after the narrowest of wins over Delph Tavern, all of whose players registered double figure scores led by Paul McAteer’s 17 points; Andy McGowan (12), Roy Atherton (14) and Mike Unsworth (17) scored well for the winners. The Delph won on handicap however and remain unbeaten and top of the handicap table.   Despite an impressive 22 points from Bill Gerrard, Turks Head Sinners lost to Rugby Hounds, all of whose players scored in double figures, led by Eric Lupton and David Hodgson who each scored 14 and Tony Robinson (12); Rugby Hounds also won on handicap.

Division 2:- Turks Head Saints remain top after their victory over Hayfield Gang; Charles Johnson (17) and Barbara Flaherty (15) scored well for the winners, while Rob Jones (16) and Matt Cochrane (12) did likewise for Hayfield.  An excellent 22 points from Alan Thompson and 13 from Lynne Hawkes enabled Ormskirk Theatre Company’s win over Benchwarmers, for whom Rob Green scored 16.  Helenians assume second place after their victory over Scarecrows; top scorers were Mike Flaherty (19),Alf Westwell (14) and Bob Foster (13) for Helenians while Magnus Brass and Barry Marshall both scored 16 for Scarecrows. In these matches the result remained unchanged after handicaps were applied.

Highlights Week 18

Division 1 :- In the top of the table clash Newburgh Lions, thanks to an outstanding 26 points from Darren Martin, prevailed over rivals Delph Tavern, for whom Paul McAteer scored 16 and Sue Perks 12. As a result Newburgh Lions go 4 points clear at the top; Delph Tavern won on handicap however. In a very close game, Rugby Hounds, for whom Eric Lupton scored 17, beat Colly Wobblers, Mike Unsworth scoring 20 for the losers.  Despite 20 points from Peter Duffy, Turks Head Sinners lost to Greyhound, for whom Brian Farrimond scored 14 and Ritchie Venner 12. In these two games the handicap result remained the same. 

Division 2:- Turks Head Saints remain top after their victory over Ormskirk Theatre Company thanks to 18 points from Charles Johnson, while Gordon Richards scored 14 for the losers. Scarecrows won comfortably against Benchwarmers; top scorers for the winners were Janet Crompton (18), Barry Marshall (16) and Magnus Brass (14). Scarecrows also won on handicap.  In the scheduled game Helenians narrowly defeated Hayfield Gang, with Alf Westwell scoring 12 for the winners and Rob Jones doing likewise for Hayfield Gang. The handicap result was reversed. In the postponed game Helenians won again narrowly and losing on handicap; Bob Foster scored 14 for the winners and Ann Frank 12 for the losers.

Presentation Night

The 2025 Presentation Night, including a Pairs competition, will be held at the Stanley Arms in Aughton on Monday April 7 from 8 pm. All welcome.
