MQL Pairs

Twenty six players entered including four from Ormskirk. In the written round top score of 40 was achieved by Pat Gibson (Colly Wobblers) drawn with Alan Thompson (Ormskirk Theatre Company). Unfortunately they did not progress beyond the semi-final. Eric Lupton (Rugby Hounds) and Charles Johnson (Turks Head Saints) with their pairs from Liverpool reached the Plate Final, but lost out to a pair from Warrington and Wirral.

Highlights Week 15

Division 1:- Newburgh Lions remain top despite losing to Turks Head Sinners, for whom Steve Pilkington scored 16 and Dave Waddilove 14; Darren Martin added a remarkable 26 points to Newburgh’s score.  Greyhound, for whom Mal Collier and Ritchie Venner both score 15 and John Wilson 12, won on the last question against Colly Wobblers; Roy Atherton (15) and Mike Unsworth (20) top scored for the losers.  16 points each from Kevin Walton and Barbara Flaherty and 15 from Charles Johnson earned Turks Head Saints a victory over Delph Tavern, for whom Sue Perks scored 15. The handicap results of these games remained unchanged. 

 

Division 2:- Rugby Hounds remain top after their victory over Benchwarmers; Eric Lupton scored an impressive 24 points while Colin MacDonald (16) and Tony Robinson (14) also made significant contributions to their score; Rob Green scored 18 for Benchwarmers. Despite 22 points from Rob Jones, Hayfield Gang lost to Helenians, for whom Alf Westwell scored 16 and Bob Foster 14. The handicap results of these games were both draws.   Scarecrows, for whom Janet Crompton scored 19 and Magnus Brass and Barry Marshall 13 each, won the day over Ormskirk Theatre Company; Gordon Richards and Alan Thompson both scored 15 for the losers but the handicap result was reversed.

President’s Trophy

Ormskirk lost their first match to unbeaten Liverpool 45-53 despite 17 from Darren Martin. They won their second match 50-35 against Southport & Formby with Pat Gibson scoring 17.

Highlights Week 14

Division 1:- Newburgh Lions consolidated their top spot with a win over Delph Tavern; Darren Martin (16) and John Purslow (12) scored well for the winners. 19 points from Bill Gerrard and 12 from Tony Spark earned Turks Head Sinners a comfortable win over Colly Wobblers, for whom Steve Feller and Mike Unsworth both scored 12. 16 points from John Wilson and 15 each from Brian Farrimond  and Ritchie Venner saw Greyhound victorious over Turks Head Saints, for whom Charles Johnson scored 14. The handicap results of these games remained unchanged.

Division 2:- Rugby Hounds remain top after their victory over Hayfield Gang, for whom Martin Burke scored 12; Eric Lupton added 16 to Rugby Hounds’ score.The result was reversed on handicap. 13 points from Janet Crompton and 12 from Barry Marshall saw Scarecrows victorious over Benchwarmers. Helenians, thanks to 15 points from Mike Flaherty and 14 from Bob Foster, beat Ormskirk Theatre Company, for whom Gordon Richards scored 13. The results of these two games were unchanged when handicaps were applied.

Highlights Week 13

Division 1:- Newburgh Lions are top of the table after their win over Colly Wobblers; Gareth Flynn and Darren Martin both scored 17 and Jim Maloney 16 for the winners while Steve Feller (17) and Andy McGowan (13) scored well for the losers. In the Turks Head derby the Saints, thanks to 20 points from Charles Johnson and 14 from Kevin Walton, won the day over the Sinners, for whom Peter Duffy scored 14 and Dave Waddilove 13. 17 points from Peter Gateley and 16 from John Wilson saw Greyhound victorious over Delph Tavern, for whom Mike Preston scored 16 and Paul McAteer 13. The handicap results remained the same.

Division 2:- Rugby Hounds are top after their win over Scarecrows; Eric Lupton (21), Tony Robinson (14) and Colin MacDonald (13) scored well for the winners while Magnus Brass (13) and Barry Marshall did likewise for Scarecrows. 18 points from Martin Burke ensured Hayfield Gang’s win over Ormskirk Theatre Company for whom Gordon Richards scored 15. The results of these two games remained unchanged when handicaps were applied. Despite 17 points from Rob Green, Benchwarmers lost to Helenians, for whom Bob Foster scored 16 and Alf Westwell 14; the result was reversed on handicap.
