Ormskirk Quiz League

In the fifth and final evening Colly Wobblers beat Soapsuds (Wirral) 48-44. Pat Gibson scored 17 and Charles Johnson 15. Full results and the final table will appear soon.

Division 1:- In the top of the table clash Newburgh Lions, thanks to 20 points from Darren Martin and 13 from Jim Maloney, emerged victorious over Turks Head Sinners and as a result assume top spot with one game to play; Peter Duffy (15) and Dave Waddilove (14) scored well for the Sinners. 18 points from John Wilson and 12 from Brian Farrimond assured Greyhound’s win over Colly Wobblers, for whom Andy McGowan scored 14 and Mike Unsworth 13. Turks Head Saints, thanks to 18 points from Barbara Flaherty overcame Delph Tavern. In these games the results were unchanged on handicap.

Division 2:- Rugby Hounds remain top on points difference after their win over Benchwarmers; Eric Lupton (15) and David Hodgson (14) top scored for the winners. Scarecrows remain second after beating Ormskirk Theatre Company, for whom Gordon Richards scored 20; Barry Marshall (14) top scored for the winners. The results of these games were reversed on handicap. 13 points from Ann Frank and Rob Jones earned Hayfield Gang a victory over Helenians, for whom Bob Foster scored 15 and Alf Westwell 14. The handicap result remained the same.

Ormskirk finished the season in second place on points difference with 4 wins, 1 draw and bonus points for 2 close defeats. Full results and table are here.

The final two matches were very close. Wirral were beaten 39-36. In a 48-49 defeat to Liverpool 2b Eric Lupton scored 17 and Peter Duffy 15.

Division 1:- Turks Head Sinners, despite losing to Colly Wobblers remain top on points difference; Steve Feller (12) and Mike Unsworth (18) top scored for the winners and Steve Pilkington added 13 to the Sinners score. Despite 22 points and a full house from Darren Martin, Newburgh Lions lost to Delph Tavern, for whom Tom Evans scored 19, Paul McAteer 18 and Sue Perks 13. Greyhound, thanks to 16 points each from Ritchie Venner and Peter Gateley overcame Turks Head Saints, for whom Charles Johnson scored 21. The results of these games remained the same on handicap.

Division 2:- Rugby Hounds remain top on points difference after their win over Hayfield Gang; Colin MacDonald (13) and Eric Lupton (17) top scored for Rugby Hounds. Scarecrows are still second after beating Benchwarmers, for whom Rob Green and Andy Milne both scored 15; Barry Marshall (17), Janet Crompton and Magnus Brass 13 each, led the scoring for Scarecrows. The results of these games were reversed on handicap. Ormskirk Theatre Company drew with Helenians but won on handicap; Gordon Richards scored 12 for the home side and Mike Flaherty scored 13 for Helenians

Ormskirk finished second after the final night of matches. In the first match Warrington were beaten 52-46. Pat Gibson scored 23 which included a full house of answering all of his eight questions.
