Highlights Week 7

Division 1:- 16 points each from Charlie McAuley and Gordon Richards helped Whippet overcome Robin Hood.  Unison stay top after a narrow win over Helenians. Squigglers won again defeating  Rugby Hounds; Janet Crompton scored 15 for the winners while David Hodgson scored 16 for Rugby Hounds.  Tuesday’s quiz produced two high scoring contests. In the first Colly Wobblers beat Newburgh Lions; Andy McGowan (17) and Pat Gibson (15) led the scoring for Colly Wobblers while David Sinclair (15) Jim Maloney (16) and Colin Shaw (15) replied for Newburgh. In the second game Greyhound amassed a total of 62 points against Abbey Sinners thanks to 16 from John Wilson, 17 from Andy Francis and 15 from Mal Collier.

Division 2:- Gang of Four maintained their 100% record with a win over Aughton Institute; Mal Jones and Matt Cochrane each scored 16 points. Abbey Saints drew with Benchwarmers for whom Rob Jones scored 19 and Mike Wall 15. Legion Lions lost to Ormskirk Tennis Club; Paul Prior leading the scoring with 22 points for the Tennis Club. Despite 18 points from Jim Dawber, Parbold Exiles went down to OCC for whom Jacqui Birchall scored 15.

Highlights Week 6

Division 1:- Unison stay top after their victory over Abbey Saints.  Rugby Hounds remain in second place after their win over Greyhound, thanks to 15 points from David Hodgson.   An impressive 23 points from Dave Sinclair greatly helped Newburgh Lions overcome a three man Helenians. Colly Wobblers beat Robin Hood, Pat Gibson scoring 21 for the winners. In the remaining game Squigglers earned their first win beating Whippet for whom Debbie Davidson scored 15.

Division 2:- Gang of Four stay top after their win over Legion Lions. Abbey Saints remain second after a narrow victory over Parbold Exiles.  16 points from Dave Berrington was a significant factor in OCC’s victory over Ormskirk Theatre Company. 22 points from Paul Prior was very instrumental in Ormskirk Tennis Club’s defeat of Benchwarmers. In the other game Aughton Institute beat Ormskirk Farmers.

President's Trophy

Ormskirk lost their unbeaten record when Southport and Formby won the match by 47 points to 39, despite a score if 16 from Pat Gibson. Ormskirk are now in third place in the table on points difference.

Charity Presentation

Ormskirk Quiz League Chairman and Treasurer Dave Boyd (right) presents a cheque on behalf of the league to Steve Jones, Douglas Valley Lions Club VP, for their local charity work and in memory of the late Robin McIntosh.

Merseyside Challenge Cup

In the first group matches all three Ormskirk teams were victorious. Unison beat Exiles from Liverpool by 42 points to 22, Darren Martin contributing 16. Colly Wobblers beat Wandering Star from Liverpool by 38 points to 15. Abbey Sinners, making their debut in the competition, beat Woodlands from Warrington by 36 points to 24.
