Final week of the first part of the season

With the final week of the first part of the season to come Greyhound and Newburgh Lions share first place on 16 points with Greyhound ahead on points difference. Three points separate the next five teams. Delph Tavern and Colly Wobblers both have 11 points - they play each other. Scarecrows and Rugby Hounds are one point behind on 10 points with Turks Head Sinners a further two points behind on 8 points, but with a superior points difference.

Highlights Week 10

Greyhound remain top on points difference, after their win over Ormskirk Theatre Company, John Wilson (17) and Brian Farrimond (12) top scored for the winners. 17 points from Darren Martin and 12 from Jim Maloney helped Newburgh Lions to a comfortable victory over Hayfield Gang, for whom Rob Jones scored 12; Newburgh also won on handicap scores. 17 points from Janet Crompton and 12 from Barry Marshall earned Scarecrows a narrow win over Colly Wobblers, for whom Mike Unsworth scored 16; Scarecrows also won on handicap. Delph Tavern climb to third in the table after their win over Turks Head Sinners, for whom Bill Gerrard scored an impressive 21 points; Tom Evans scored 16 for the winners who also won on handicap. Despite 14 points from Kevin Walton, Turks Head Saints lost to Helenians, who also won on handicap. 

Highlights Week 9

Greyhound lost their first game of the season to Rugby Hounds, all of whose players scored in double figures led by an impressive 21 points from Eric Lupton; Brian Farrimond (14) and Lynn Ashcroft (13) top scored for Greyhound.   An outstanding 22 points and full house from Peter Duffy and 12 from Bill Gerrard assured Turks Head Sinners’ win over Helenians; the Sinners also won on handicap.   Delph Tavern, for whom Paul McAteer scored 14 and Sue Perks 15, overcame Scarecrows whose top scorers were Barry Marshall (13) and Janet Crompton (15); the Delph also won on handicap.   An excellent 19 points from Rob Jones helped Hayfield Gang earn a much needed win over Turks Head Saints, for whom Charles Johnson scored 15; Hayfield also won on handicap.  Despite an excellent 20 points from Gordon Richards and 14 from Alan Thompson, Ormskirk Theatre Company lost to Colly Wobblers, for whom Roy Atherton and Andy McGowan both scored 13 and Mike Unsworth 17. The Theatre Company won on handicap score however

Merseyside Challenge Cup

The second set of matches in the group stage saw both Ormskirk teams remain unbeaten. Colly Wobblers beat Fishermen's Rest (S&F) 54-32. All four players achieved double figure scores led by Pat Gibson, 17, and Mike Unsworth, 15, enabling the team to qualify for the knockout stage with one match remaining. Greyhound drew 41-41 with Soapsuds (Wirral).

Highlights Week 8

Newburgh Lions’ unbeaten run finally came to an end at the hands of Greyhound, who themselves preserve their 100% record and assume top spot. John Wilson (17), Ritchie Venner (16) and Brian Farrimond (12) scored well for the winners while Jim Maloney (18) did likewise for Newburgh.   Despite 13 points each from Eric Lupton and David Hodgson, Rugby Hounds lost to Colly Wobblers.  Sue Perks scored an impressive 20 points for Delph Tavern in  their narrowest of wins over Ormskirk Theatre Company, for whom Gordon Richards scored14 and Alan Thompson 12; the Theatre Company won on handicap.  Hayfield Gang, for whom Martin Burke scored 16 and Ann Frank 12, earned a much needed win over Helenians with Bob Foster scoring 14 for the losing team; Hayfield Gang also won on handicap. Despite a remarkable 22 points from Barry Marshall, Scarecrows lost to Turks Head Sinners, for whom Bill Gerrard and Arthur Heyes both scored 14 and Francis Williams 12; Turks Head Sinners also won on handicap.
