Highlights Week 4

Division 1 :- 15 points from Mal Collier and double figure scores from all their players, assured Greyhound’s victory over Abbey Saints, for whom Barbara Flaherty scored 15; as a result Greyhound remain in top place. Unison remain second after their win over Ormskirk Tennis Club; Darren Martin (20 plus a full house) and Charles Johnson (15) led the scoring for Unison while Paul Prior replied with 19 points for the Tennis Club. Newburgh Lions, thanks to 20 points from Jim Maloney won the day over Squigglers; Barry Marshall scoring 17 for the losing team. 17 points from Sue Perks and 16 from Mike Preston earned Robin Hood a win over Whippet. Colly Wobblers had the narrowest of wins in a very tight game over Helenians; Mike Unsworth scored 16 for the winners and Dave Boyd 15 for Helenians. 

Division 2 :- Rugby Hounds remain top after a comfortable win over Benchwarmers; Colin MacDonald (17), Eric Lupton (15) and David Hodgson (18) scored well for the winners while Rob Green added 20 points to Benchwarmers score. 17 points from Bill Gerrard earned Abbey Sinners a win over Bispham Farmers Arms for whom Jim Dawber scored 15 and Donal Monaghan 12. Ormskirk Theatre Company, thanks to 13 from Alan Thompson had a narrow win over Ormskirk Farmers.

President’s Trophy

The Ormskirk team won both of their opening matches. They beat Warrington 57-37 thanks to 19 from Pat Gibson and 18 from John Wilson. The second match against reigning champions Liverpool saw a 56-40 victory with 17 from John Wilson and 15 from Pat Gibson. Gary Grant made his debut and scored 16 in the second match.

Highlights Week 3

Division 1 :- Greyhound remain top on points difference after a comfortable win over Ormskirk Tennis Club, John Wilson scoring 20 points for the winners. Unison, for whom Darren Martin scored 24, are second after their important win over Colly Wobblers, Pat Gibson scoring 22 for the losing team. 16 points each from Tom Evans and Sue Perks made the difference in Robin Hood’s win over Abbey Saints. David Sinclair’s 21 points greatly helped Newburgh Lions to a narrow victory over Whippet. In the other game Helenians beat Squigglers and as a result move into third place.

Division 2 :- Rugby Hounds stay top after their win over Ormskirk Theatre Company; David Hodgson (19) and Colin MacDonald (12) led the scoring for the winners while Alan Thompson contributed 15 to the losing team’s score. 16 points from Bill Gerrard and 14 from Francis Williams saw Abbey Sinners home against Gang of Four for whom Andrew Sackville scored 13 and Rob Jones 12. 12 points from Jim Dawber helped Bispham Farmers Arms to a narrow win over Ormskirk Farmers. Despite 17 points from Steve Garrett Legion Lions lost by the narrowest of margins to Benchwarmers.

The Chase

Bill Gerrard (Abbey Sinners) appeared on the ITV quiz show The Chase on Thursday. He answered seven questions correctly to add £7000 to the team total. Unfortunately the team did not answer enough questions in the Final Chase and were comfortably beaten by The Beast.

President's Shield

The Ormskirk team of Bill Gerrard and Francis Williams (Abbey Sinners), Alf Westwell (Helenians) and Alan Thompson (Ormskirk Theatre Company) won their first two matches of the season. Good all-round scoring helped to beat Liverpool 2A by one point, 46-45 and Wirral by three points, 44-41.
