Ormskirk have entered the President's Shield for the first time. The competition was founded in the 1978-1979 season for teams to represent divisions other than the first in each league. Previously teams from all divisions in the MQL played in the President's Trophy. Ormskirk 2 last appeared in the 1976-1977 season when they had a 100% record - lost all 14 matches!
In the first match played on Wednesday Ormskirk lost 40-41 to Liverpool 2A, last season's winners. In the second match Ormskirk beat Wirral 2, last season's runner-up, by 46-45.
Bill Gerrard (Abbey Sinners), Alf Westwell (Helenians) and Barbara Phillips (Robin Hood) played in both matches. George Phillips (Robin Hood) and Alan Thompson (Ormskirk Theatre Company) each played in one match.
