Ormskirk concluded a successful season in the Shield with a runner up place in the Challenge for the top four teams. In the semi final Wirral were beaten 50-35, with Bill Gerrard contributing 19 of the points. The final saw a defeat to a very strong Warrington team by 38-45 with all four players scoring between 8 and 11. Well done to all players in the squad.

Division 1:- 18 points from Andy Francis and 16 from John Wilson helped Greyhound secure a victory over Colly Wobblers for whom Pat Gibson scored 16. Greyhound have won all three matches and are top of the group. Newburgh Lions earned their first win, thanks to 19 points each from Jim Maloney and Colin Shaw, beating Helenians, Dave Boyd contributing 18 to their score. Despite 16 from Paul Prior, Ormskirk Tennis Club’s run of wins was interrupted by Rugby Hounds for whom David Hodgson scored 18. 18 points from Barry Marshall saw Squigglers overcome a three man Whippet team.
Division 2 :- Steve Pilkington with 13 points led the scoring for Abbey Sinners who overcame Ormskirk Farmers, for whom Dave Berrington also scored 13. Despite 16 points from Rob Green, Benchwarmers lost to Parbold Exiles. Abbey Saints, thanks to 13 from Barbara Flaherty, had the narrowest of wins over Ormskirk Theatre Company. Newcomers Douglas Valley Lions gained their first win by beating Legion Lions.

Division 1:- 15 points each from Brian Farrimond and John Wilson helped Greyhound overcome Unison for whom Alan Gibbs scored 16 and Darren Martin 15. Despite 16 points from Alf Westwell, Helenians lost to Colly Wobblers; Pat Gibson (20) and Steve Feller (15) led the scoring for the winners. Ormskirk Tennis Club won the day over Robin Hood; Paul Prior scored 20 for the winners while Tom Evans replied with 19 for the Robin. 17 points from Barry Marshall wasn’t enough for Squigglers to secure victory over Rugby Hounds for whom Colin McDonald scored 15.
Division 2 :- In the Abbey derby the Saints won by the narrowest of margins, thanks to 16 points from Barbara Flaherty; Francis Williams replied with 16 for the Sinners. 12 points each form Ann Frank and Rob Jones helped Gang of Four to victory over Ormskirk Theatre Company. An impressive 22 points from Jim Dawber saw Parbold Exiles home against newcomers Douglas Valley Lions. Despite 19 points from Rob Green Benchwarmers lost to Aughton Institute for whom Brian Davies scored 13.

In the final set of matches Ormskirk followed the same pattern as in the previous four - one win and one loss. Southport & Formby were beaten 40-35, but the other match saw a loss to Liverpool 2B by 34-43 despite 17 points from Francis Williams. In their first season Ormskirk finished fourth in the table and qualify for the Challenge which will be played on March 7th.
