President’s Shield

In this month’s round of matches Ormskirk won one and lost one. The first match against Liverpool 2A saw a win by 50-44 with Bill Gerrard scoring 20 points including answering seven of his own questions (as did his opposite number). The second match saw a defeat to Warrington by 32-46, with the toss for answering proving vital. Bill was again to the fore with 22 points.

Highlights Week 11

Division 1 :- Unison remain top after their win over Squigglers; Darren Martin scored 18 for the winners and Barry Marshall replied with 17 for Squigglers. With all eight players scoring double figure scores, Greyhound emerged victorious over Colly Wobblers; Andy Francis (15) top scored for Greyhound as did Pat Gibson (15) for the losers.  21 points from Paul Prior made the difference in Ormskirk Tennis Club’s win over Abbey Saints. Despite 15 points from Sue Perks, Robin Hood lost to Newburgh Lions, for whom Jim Maloney contributed 16. 

Division 2 :- With Abbey Sinners not playing Rugby Hounds took the opportunity to regain top spot on points difference, by beating Bispham Farmers Arms; Eric Lupton (16), Colin MacDonald (13) and David Hodgson (13) scored well for the winners. 19 points from Alan Thompson greatly helped Ormskirk Theatre Company’s win over a three man Legion Lions. Gang of Four, thanks to 13 from Rob Jones, won the day against Ormskirk Farmers. Despite an impressive 21 points from Rob Green, Benchwarmers lost to Aughton Institute for whom John Hesketh scored 13.

Merseyside Challenge Cup

Three Ormskirk teams remain unbeaten after the second set of group matches. In Group A Colly Wobblers head the table after a 61-28 win at Wandering Star (Liverpool) - Mike Unsworth and Pat Gibson each answered seven of their own questions in scores of 23 and 19. Greyhound head Group B following a 49-42 win at Wallaseyans (Wirral) with Andy Francis (16) and Peter Gateley (15) leading the way. Unison lead Group C after beating Abbey Sinners 53-42. Charles Johnson (18) and Darren Martin (16) did well for Unison as did Bill Gerrard (15) for Abbey Sinners. The final matches at this stage of the competition will take place on December 12th.

A donation of £250 each has recently been sent to our two charities HCPT and Cancer Research.

Highlights Week 10

Division 1 :- 21 points and a full house from Darren Martin plus 18 from Charles Johnson helped Unison to a win over Whippet, for whom Debbie Davidson scored 19 and Gordon Richards 15. Despite 20 points from Janet Crompton, Squigglers lost to Greyhound, John Wilson scoring 15 for the winners. 17 points from Barbara Flaherty wasn’t enough to prevent Abbey Saints losing to Colly Wobblers; Pat Gibson (17) and Mike Unsworth (16) led the scoring for the winners. In a 3 a-side match Helenians, for whom Dave Boyd scored 18 and Alf Westwell 16, overcame Newburgh Lions; Jim Maloney contributing 19 to Newburgh’s score. 21 points from Paul Prior greatly helped Ormskirk Tennis Club to a win over Robin Hood for whom Sue Perks scored 15.

Division 2 :- Abbey Saints, for whom Bill Gerrard scored 22, remain top after their win over Ormskirk Farmers. Rugby Hounds are second, beating Gang of Four; Colin MacDonald scored 14 for the winners and Rob Jones 12 for the losing team. 17 points from Steve Garrett secured Legion Lions’ first win of the season against Bispham Farmers Arms. In beating Ormskirk Theatre Company, Aughton Institute also secured their first win of the season.
