Highlights Week 14

Division 1:- Unison remain top after a win over Whippet;  Alan Gibbs (16) and Madeline Evans (15) scored well for the winners.  15 points each from Gareth Flynn and Jim Maloney earned Newburgh Lions a well needed win over Turks Head Saints, for whom Barbara Flaherty scored 16.  An impressive 23 points from John Wilson helped Greyhound to a victory over Robin Hood. Colly Wobblers stay second after winning what was after five rounds, a close game against Rugby Hounds; Mike Unsworth scored 18 for the winners.

Division 2:- Squigglers march on undefeated with a comfortable win over Ormskirk Theatre Company; Janet Crompton (22) and Barry Marshall (17) top scored for the winners while Alan Thompson replied with 13 for the Theatre Company. 15 points from Rob Jones and 12 from Matt Cochrane earned Hayfield a win over Aughton Institute.  Bispham Farmers Arms lost to Ormskirk Tennis Club, for whom Paul Prior celebrated his birthday with 16 points  aided by Dave Gordon’s 12 points.

President's Trophy

In the fourth evening of matches Ormskirk won one and drew one. Wirral were beaten 44-39 with Pat Gibson scoring 20 points. The second match against Southport & Formby was a 51-51 draw. Pat Gibson again scored 20 and John Wilson scored 17.

The final matches will be played on March 16th. Ormskirk are one point behind Warrington. They meet in the final match.

Highlights Week 13

Division 1:- Despite 15 points from Bill Gerrard, Turks Head Sinners succumbed to Colly Wobblers.   21 points from Jim Maloney wasn’t enough for Newburgh Lions who lost to Whippet.   Eric Lupton’s 15 points helped Rugby Hounds secure a win over Robin Hood, for whom Paul McAteer scored 16. Greyhound, thanks to 19 from John Wilson overcame Turks Head Saints; Kevin Walton scored 15 for the Saints.

Division 2:- Squigglers remain top and unbeaten after a convincing win over Benchwarmers; Janet Crompton (20), Eric Ray (12) and Barry Marshall (14) led the scoring for the winners.   14 points from Bob Foster earned Helenians a draw with Ormskirk Theatre Company, for whom Alan Thompson scored 12 and Kevin Braithwaite 13. An impressive 20 points from Paul Prior and 12 from Sarah Lawton enabled Ormskirk Tennis Club’s victory over Hayfield, for whom Rob Jones scored 15. 

Highlights Week 12

Division 1:- Unison played two games. In the scheduled game they beat Turks Head Sinners, for whom Bill Gerrard scored 19; Darren Martin added 15 to Unison’s score. In the postponed game Unison also won, this time beating Newburgh Lions; Dave Sinclair scored 15 for Newburgh, as did Alan Gibbs for Unison.  Despite 21 points from John Wilson, Greyhound lost to Whippet, all of whose players scored in double figures.  Turks Head Saints earned their first win by beating Rugby Hounds, for whom Eric Lupton scored 16. In the other game Colly Wobblers beat Robin Hood and assume second place

Division 2:- Squigglers remain top after a convincing win over Aughton Institute; Janet Crompton scored an impressive 24 points and Barry Marshall 14 for the winners, while Dave Berrington added 12 to Aughton’s score. 20 points from Dave Boyd and 16 from Mike Flaherty earned Helenians a victory over Benchwarmers, for whom Rob Green scored 17. 13 points from Alan Thompson helped Ormskirk Theatre Company to a win over Bispham Farmers Arms.

Merseyside Challenge Cup

Three Ormskirk teams have entered this MQL competition which will be played as a knockout, with a Plate for the first round losers. Colly Wobblers beat Ringers from Warrington 51-49 in which there was never more than two points between the teams in any round. Pat Gibson scored 20 for Colly Wobblers. Unison beat Grapes of Wrath from Southport & Formby 63-28 with Darren Martin and Alan Gibbs also scoring 20. Nineteen points from Peter Gateley helped Greyhound beat Exiles from Liverpool 43-32.
