Highlights Week 4

Division 1:- Colly Wobblers remain unbeaten and top of the table after the narrowest of wins over Turks Head Sinners, for whom Bill Gerrard scored 16; Andy McGowan, with 15 points, top scored for the winners.  Despite 22 points from Eric Lupton, Rugby Hounds lost to Robin Hood, Paul McAteer scored 16 for the winners.  Whippet, all of whose players registered in double figure scores, achieved their first win by beating Newburgh Lions, for whom Jim Maloney scored 21.  An impressive 24 points from John Wilson greatly helped Greyhound to a comfortable win over Turks Head Saints, who only fielded three players.

Division 2:- Helenians maintained top spot with their win over Ormskirk Theatre Company; Dave Boyd and Bob Foster both scored 15 for the winners, while Alan Thompson added 12 to the Theatre Company’s score. Squigglers, for whom Barry Marshall scored 18 and Janet Crompton 17, inflicted a heavy defeat on Benchwarmers. 16 points from Paul Prior was significant in Ormskirk Tennis Club’s win over a three man Hayfield, for whom Andrew Sackville scored 14.

Highlights Week 3

Division 1:- An impressive 22 points from Bill Gerrard helped Turks Head Sinners to a narrow win over Unison, for whom Charles Johnson scored 17. As a result Colly Wobblers go top after their victory over Robin Hood; high scorers were Pat Gibson (22) for Colly Wobblers and Paul McAteer (20) for Robin Hood.   Despite 17 points from Debbie Davidson Whippet lost to Greyhound, for whom Ritchie Venner scored 17 and Peter Gateley 15.

Division 2:- Helenians go top after their victory over Benchwarmers, for whom Rob Green scored 16; Dave Boyd (13) and Alf Westwell (12) scored well for the winners.   An excellent 21 points from Barry Marshall enabled a 3 man Squigglers’ win over Aughton Institute.  19 points from Alan Thompson helped Ormskirk Theatre Company overcome Bispham Farmers Arms, for whom Jim Dawber scored 12.

Highlights Week 2

Division 1:- Unison are top on points difference after another convincing win over Newburgh Lions; Darren Martin (22) and Alan Gibbs (17) made significant contributions to their score and Jim Maloney scored 15 for Newburgh.  15 points from Roy Atherton assured Colly Wobblers win over Turks Head Saints.  Robin Hood, for whom Paul McAteer scored 18, had a good win over Turks Head Sinners; Bill Gerrard scoring 15 for the losing team.  Rugby Hounds, in a game where there was never less than two points between the teams, began their season with the narrowest of wins over Whippet, for whom Brian Yates scored 15.

Division 2:- 17 points from Jim Dawber helped Bispham Farmers Arms to a win over Benchwarmers and as a result they are top on points difference. Helenians are second after their win over Aughton Institute; Dave Boyd (15) and Bob Foster (15) scored well for the winners while Ian Bakewell scored 12 for Aughton.   Squigglers began their season with a convincing win over Hayfield; Barry Marshall (18) and Janet Crompton (15) top scored for Squigglers while Rob Jones added 14 to Hayfield’s reply.

Changed Venue

Helenians will play home matches at the Golden Lion in Rainford where they played in our first season and which also hosted one of our most successful teams in the first decade of the league.
