Unison have won the Merseyside Challenge Cup with a 47-39 victory over Hatton Yarboury (Warrington). Darren Martin scored 19 and Alan Gibbs 17.

The two scratch teams met in the opening round and Turks Head Sinners emerged victorious over Rugby Hounds; Bill Gerrard scored 18 for the winners and Eric Lupton 17 for Rugby Hounds. Ormskirk Tennis Club were unable to claw back the17 point advantage that Bispham Farmers Arms had over them, in the end losing by 14; Clive Gregory scored 13 for the winners and Paul Prior 12 for the Tennis Club. Hayfield began with an 8 point start over Turks Head Saints and increased that to win comfortably by 22 points mainly thanks to an impressive 23 points from Matt Cochrane ; Kevin Walton scored 13 for the Saints. Benchwarmers had a 13 point start over Helenians but lost by 9; Rob Green scored 13 for Benchwarmers and Dave Boyd, Mike Flaherty and Alf Westwell each scored 12 for Helenians.

Division 1:- Congratulations to Unison on winning the title, losing only one match all season. In their final game, thanks to 20 points from Charles Johnson, they defeated Rugby Hounds, for whom Eric Lupton scored 15. Runners up are Greyhound who beat Newburgh Lions thanks to an impressive 23 points from John Wilson. 17 points from Sue Perks helped Robin Hood to the narrowest of wins over Whippet, for whom Peter Duffy scored 16. In the Turks Head derby, Sinners emerged victorious over Saints with Bill Gerrard scoring 19 points for the winners.
Division 2:- Congratulations to Squigglers who, in winning Division 2, went undefeated until their final game, where they were beaten by Ormskirk Tennis Club; Paul Prior scored 21 for the winners and Barry Marshall 19 for Squigglers. As a result Tennis Club finish second one point ahead of Helenians, who had completed their fixtures. Ormskirk Theatre Company had the narrowest of wins over Benchwarmers, for whom Rob Green scored 18; Alan Thompson (14) top scored for the winners. 13 points each from Matt Cochrane and Rob Jones ensured Hayfield’s win over Bispham Farmers Arms.
Congratulations to Whippet who won the Handicap League.
