Ormskirk Quiz League

Division 1 :-  Greyhound continued their good run and remain top of the table after an emphatic win over Newburgh Lions; Ritchie Venner (19) and John Wilson (16) top scored for Greyhound and David Sinclair (15) did likewise for Newburgh. 18 points from Charles Johnson and 17 from Darren Martin ensured Unison’s win over Rugby Hounds, for whom Colin MacDonald scored 18. Colly Wobblers, thanks to 18 from Steve Feller and 16 from Roy Atherton overcame Scarecrows. Robin Hood’s recent good run continued when they beat Turks Head Sinners; Paul McAteer scored 18 for the winners and Bill Gerrard 15 for the Sinners.

Division 2 :-In the top of the table clash, Turks Head Saints emerged victorious and go into first place after beating Ormskirk Tennis Club; Kevin Walton (13) and Barbara Flaherty (12) scored well for the winners, while Sarah Lawton contributed 14 to the Tennis Club’s score. Hayfield Gang, thanks to 17 points from Matt Cochrane and 14 from Rob Jones, overcame Ormskirk Theatre Company, for whom Alan Thompson scored 15 and Gordon Richards 12. Despite 15 points from Bob Foster, Helenians lost to Bispham Eagles, for whom Jim Dawber scored 14. Benchwarmers narrowly beat Aughton Institute; Rob Green scored 16 for the winners and Dave Berrington 13 for Aughton.

Ormskirk won one and lost one of their two matches last night. In the first match Ormskirk lost to Wirral 43-48 despite 16 points from Arthur Heyes on his debut. In the second match Ormskirk beat Liverpool 2a 45-40 with Bill Gerrard scoring 16.

Division 1 :-  Greyhound remain top after a comfortable win over Colly Wobblers; top scorers were Brian Farrimond (18) and John Wilson (16)  for the winners and Mike Unsworth (15) for the losers.  15 points form Darren Martin helped Unison overcome Newburgh Lions, for whom David Sinclair scored 18; as a result Unison move into second place. Rugby Hounds halted their losing streak with the narrowest of wins over Turks Head Sinners; Eric Lupton added an impressive 21 points to Rugby Hounds score, while Bill Gerrard scored 15 for the Sinners. Sue Perks’ 17 points was a significant contribution to Robin Hood’s score and helped them overcome Scarecrows, for whom Janet Crompton scored 16. 

Division 2 :-Ormskirk Tennis Club retain top position after their win over Hayfield Gang; Paul Prior scored an impressive 21 points for the winners. Turks Head Saints stay second after beating Benchwarmers; Barbara Flaherty scoring 16 for the winners and Rob Green (14) and Mike Wall (13) top scored for Benchwarmers. 21 points from Gordon Richards assured Ormskirk Theatre Company’s win over Helenians, for whom Alf Westwell scored 14. 12 points from Jim Dawber earned Bispham Eagles the narrowest of wins over Aughton Institute.

Ormskirk remain undefeated and top of the table after two wins this week. Wirral were beaten 56-32 with Pat Gibson contributing 23 points. The second match against Southport & Formby was very close throughout. Ormskirk won by just two points 49-47, Pat again scoring well with 21.

Despite 19 points from Eric Lupton, Rugby Hounds lost to Scarecrows. 

Division 2 :-Ormskirk Tennis Club stay on top after beating Helenians; Sarah Lawton (17) and Paul Prior (15) top scored for the winners while Mike Flaherty added 13 to Helenians’ score. 15 points from Barbara Flaherty and 14 from Mike Critchley greatly helped Turks Head Saints to a victory over Aughton Institute. Ormskirk Theatre Company, for whom Gordon Richards scored 15 and Alan Thompson 13, overcame Bispham Eagles; Jim Dawber scored 12 for Bispham. 15 points from Rob Green greatly enabled Benchwarmers’ win over Hayfield Gang, for whom Rob Jones scored 13.
