Sixteen players entered this year's contest at the Greyhound in Ormskirk last Thursday.

A closely fought final saw Darren Martin win his first Ormskirk MIMIR title.

Special mention must go to Paul Prior from second division Ormskirk Tennis Club for reaching the final and thus qualifying for the Merseyside heat next month.

 

Brain of Britain

Darren Martin from Unison is in the first semi final which will be broadcast on BBC Radio 4 on Monday February 18th at 3 pm. The repeat is on Saturday at 11 pm. It will be available on iplayer for a week after that. It can also be downloaded as a podcast.

Postponed Games

 
The four outstanding postponed games were all played this week.
 
Highlights
Div 1 - Farmers Arms won both of their games to move away from the bottom, with Charles Johnson scoring 19 against Abbey Saints and 20 against Robin Hood. Rugby Hounds ended their losing streak with a win over Newburgh Lions with David Hodgson scoring 19 points.
In Div 2 a good win for Red Lion (Burscough) over Parbold Exiles.

Britain's Brightest

Well done Alan Gibbs from the Wheatsheaf who reached the last three in the final of the BBC1 prime time Saturday night show, Britain's Brightest.  Alan was narrowly beaten in a tightly-fought contest, the eventual winner being 43 year old Andy Thomas from Portsmouth.

Merseyside Challenge Cup

In the quarter finals of the Merseyside Challenge Cup Old Dog beat Oxton Cons by 53 points to 26 and now travel to Wings from Southport  & Formby in the semi finals. In the St Helens derby Wheatsheaf narrowly overcame Unison by 37 points to 35 and now entertain Metros, also from Southport & Formby.

In the Merseyside Plate Greyhound comfortably beat Baltic Fleet by 38 points to 25 and are at home to a Liverpool team in the semi finals. Unfortunately Colly Wobblers went down by 1 point to Exiles.
