Ormskirk Quiz League

A member of the Merseyside Quiz Leagues

Tony Grieco

I am sad to report that Tony passed away in the early hours of Wednesday. He was in his mid 60s.

He had a kidney removed earlier this year and recently underwent a course of radiotherapy.

Tony was very proud of his London and Italian heritage, moving to Liverpool to train as a teacher at Christ's College. He spent his entire career at Maricourt School in Maghull, becoming a Governor when he retired.

He started playing quiz in the Northern League before joining the large squad at the Ropers Arms in Ormskirk in the 1980s. He became team secretary in 1997, continuing in this role when they moved to the Greyhound.

Tony led a pilgrimage for handicapped children each Easter to Lourdes for HCPT. Do have a look at their Facebook page and this page as well.

The funeral will be in London on Saturday September 10th.

Charity League

Congratulations to Unison for winning the Charity League on points difference from Helenians. Both teams won three of their four matches. Unison had a points difference of +14. Helenians had a points difference of +13.

Brian Fitton

I am sad to report that Brian passed away yesterday. He was in his mid-70s.

He played for Squigglers since their days as Queen Inn in the 1980s and became their secretary in 1997.

He was diagnosed with lung cancer during last season and played until Christmas.

He was a former chairman and 1st XI captain at Maghull Cricket Club.
