Highlights Week 3

Division 1 :- Rugby Hounds assume top spot after their convincing win over Robin Hood; Eric Lupton scored an impressive 20 points for the winners. Unison are second on points difference; they had a narrower victory over Scarecrows, for whom Janet Crompton scored 18 while Darren Martin registered 20 points for the winners. 16 points from David Sinclair enabled Newburgh Lions’  comfortable win over Colly Wobblers. In the other game Greyhound lost to Turks Head Sinners, who now occupy third place.

Division 2 :- A remarkable 26 points from Paul Prior was the major factor in Ormskirk Tennis Club’s win over Bispham Eagles; as a result the Tennis Club assume top spot. Turks Head Saints are second after their narrowest of victories over Hayfield Gang; Rob Jones scored an impressive 23 points for Hayfield while Kevin Walton (15), Clive Walton (12) and Barbara Flaherty (14) scored well for the winners. Despite an excellent 22 points from Alan Thompson, Ormskirk Theatre Company lost by a single point to Benchwarmers, for whom Mike Wall scored 13. In the other game Aughton Institute had the narrowest of wins over Helenians.     

Rearranged matches

Matches postponed on Monday will be played as double-headers on November 7 or 8.

MQL Pairs

Thirtyeight players took part in the Second MQL Pairs Event, held at Prescot Cables FC, of which fifteen were from Ormskirk. Alan Thompson partnered by Darren Martin, together with Paul McAteer partnered by the MQL Chairman Danny Grimes from Liverpool reached the semi finals. Unfortunately they did not make further progress. Phil McConnell partnered by Charles Johnson and Mike Unsworth partnered by Helen Belcham from Wirral reached the Plate Final, but lost out. Highlights Week 1

Division 1 :- Unison began the defence of their title with a convincing win over Robin Hood;  top scorers for Unison were Darren Martin (17) and Alan Gibbs (16).  17 points from David Hodgson and 15 from Eric Lupton helped Rugby Hounds overcome Newburgh Lions, for whom Jim Maloney scored 17. In a game where there was never more than 2 points between the teams, Turks Head Sinners, for whom Bill Gerrard scored 19, drew with Colly Wobblers.  Greyhound, thanks to 17 points from John Wilson had a comfortable win over Scarecrows.

Division 2 :- 15 points from Mike Flaherty helped Helenians to a win over Hayfield Gang. Despite 12 points from Alan Thompson, Ormskirk Theatre Company lost to Turks Head Saints; Barbara Flaherty (14) and Kevin Walton (13) top scored for the winners.   Ormskirk Tennis Club, thanks to 13 points from Sarah Lawton and 12 from Dave Gordon, earned a narrow victory over Aughton Institute, for whom Toni Keane scored 12.

All matches scheduled for Monday September 19 are postponed due to the funeral of the Queen.
