Handicap Cup:- The final stages of the cup were played at The Delph Tavern last night. In the semi-final, Hayfield Gang began with an eight point advantage over Helenians; the game was very close throughout but Helenians pulled away in the final round to win by three, thanks to 14 points from Alf Westwell and 13 from Bob Foster. In the final Helenians began with a five point start over Delph Tavern but lost by eight; Paul McAteer (18) and Sue Perks (17) scored very well for the winners while Bob Foster (17) did likewise for Helenians. So many congratulations to Delph Tavern on winning the Handicap Cup
Handicap Plate:- The final stages of the handicap plate were played at the Turks Head last night. In the semi final Scarecrows began with a one point advantage over Turks Head Saints and won by two. Janet Crompton (19) and Barry Marshall (16) top scored for the winners and Charles Johnson (16) and Barbara Flaherty (15) did likewise for the Saints. In the final Scarecrows met Ormskirk Theatre Company who began with a six point start but Scarecrows, thanks in the main to an impressive 22 points from Janet Crompton and 16 from Barry Marshall, ran out comfortable winners by 14 points; Alan Thompson scored 13 for the Theatre Company. Many congratulations to Scarecrows on winning the Handicap Plate.

Six Ormskirk players took part in this event held at New Brighton Cricket Club. Mike Unsworth (Colly Wobblers) made it through the first two rounds to reach the semi final. Pat Gibson (Colly Wobblers) went one stage further and has qualified for the final to be held at Formby Cricket Club in May.

Division 1 :- Newburgh Lions finished their successful season in style, as champions, by beating Colly Wobblers, who finish second; Darren Martin top scored for the winners with 19 points, while Roy Atherton (13) and Mike Unsworth (15) did likewise for the losers. Despite losing to Greyhound, Rugby Hounds finish third; Peter Gateley (15) and John Wilson (14) top scored for the winners and David Hodgson (14) and Colin MacDonald (12) did likewise for the losers. Turks Head Sinners, all of whose players scored in double figures led by Peter Duffy (18) and Bill Gerrard (16), had a comfortable win over Delph Tavern, for whom Paul McAteer scored 12. All these matches remained the same after handicap. Congratulations to Delph Tavern on winning the handicap league
Division 2:- Turks Head Saints finished their season with a convincing win over Benchwarmers; Kevin Walton (19) and Barbara Flaherty (18) scored very well for the winners. The Saints have now won three successive division two titles as well as coming second in the handicap league. Despite losing to Ormskirk Theatre Company, Helenians finish second with Kevin Braithwaite scoring 13 for the winners. Janet Crompton’s 16 points and Barry Marshall’s 13 wasn’t enough for Scarecrows to effect a win over Hayfield Gang. All these results remained the same when handicaps were applied.

Division 1 :- Newburgh Lions remain top after a comfortable win over Turks Head Sinners; Darren Martin scored an impressive 23 points, Jim Maloney (14) and Gareth Flynn (12) for the winners, while Peter Duffy (20) did likewise for the Sinners. As a result Newburgh Lions are champions, whatever the outcome of next week’s game between the top two, so many congratulations to them on winning their first division one championship in their long forty plus year history. Despite 15 points each from Sarah Lawton and Ritchie Venner, Greyhound lost to Colly Wobblers for whom Mike Unsworth scored 23. 19 points from Eric Lupton earned Rugby Hounds a win over Delph Tavern, who only fielded two players both of whom scored well - Paul McAteer (22) and Mike Preston (13). All match results were unchanged after handicaps were applied.
Division 2:- Turks Head Saints are champions with one match remaining, so congratulations to them. They won their penultimate game beating Helenians, thanks to an excellent 21 points from Charles Johnson and 12 points from Kevin Walton, while Mike Flaherty added 13 to Helenians score. An impressive 20 points from Gordon Richards earned Ormskirk Theatre Company the narrowest of wins over Scarecrows, for whom Janet Crompton scored an equally impressive 20 points and Barry Marshall 14. Hayfield Gang had a comfortable win over Benchwarmers; Rob Jones (15), Ann Frank (13) and Matt Cochrane (12) scored well for the winners, while Rob Green added 12 to Benchwarmers score.The results of these games were unchanged after handicaps were applied.
