President's Trophy

In the latest round of matches Ormskirk lost their first match to unbeaten Liverpool 36-47. The second match saw a 49-44 victory against Southport & Formby with John Wilson scoring 18 points. The team are in second place, one point behind Liverpool, who have two games in hand.

Highlights Week 12

Division 1:- Rugby Hounds won their first game of the season, beating Helenians in a high scoring contest; Eric Lupton (21 and a full house) and Colin Macdonald (18) led the scoring for the winners while Mike Flaherty (15) replied for Helenians.  20 points from David Sinclair helped Newburgh Lions clinch a final round victory over Robin Hood for whom Carl Rennox scored 15.  Despite 21 points from Alan Gibbs, Unison lost to Colly Wobblers; Pat Gibson (17) and Mike Unsworth (15) led the  scoring for the winners. An impressive 23 points from John Wilson was the difference in Greyhound’s win over Squigglers.  A massive 27 points from Paul Prior saw Ormskirk Tennis Club home against Whippet for whom Debbie Davidson scored 21. 

Division 2 :- In the Abbey Derby, the Saints emerged victorious in a very high scoring game; Barbara Flaherty (16), Kevin Walton (15) and Clive Walton (15) scored well for the Saints while Bill Gerrard (16) and Francis Williams (15) did the same for Abbey Sinners. 18 points from Alan Thompson greatly helped Ormskirk Theatre Company to a win over Ormskirk Farmers, for whom Dave Berrington scored15. 16 points from Steve Garrett was the difference in Legion Lions win over Benchwarmers.  Gang of Four remain top after their win over Aughton Institute; Matt Cochrane scoring 17 for the winners while John Hesketh replied with 15 for Aughton.

The Chase

Congratulations to Steve Pilkington (Abbey Sinners) for his performance on the ITV quiz show The Chase last Wednesday. He answered eight questions in the Cashbuilder round which added £8000 to the £42000 banked by the other three contestants. They scored 23 in the Final round to 20 by the Chaser and so won £12500 each.

It is on itv hub until mid December.

President's Shield

In their third evening of matches Ormskirk continued the pattern of the previous two - one win and one loss. The win was against Liverpool 2A by 44-35 with Bill Gerrard scoring 18. The loss was against Warrington by 43-55, Bill again doing well with 15 and Alan Thompson scoring 14. Francis Williams (Abbey Sinners) made his debut for the team.

Highlights Week 11

Division 1:- In a very high scoring game (aggregate score 103) Greyhound made a late run to overtake Unison; John Wilson scored 21 for the winners and Darren Martin 15 for Unison.  Colly Wobblers stay top by one point after their win over Robin Hood; Pat Gibson (20 plus another ‘full house’) and Mike Unsworth(16) led the scoring for the winners and Paul Coffey replied with 16 for Robin Hood.  Despite 20 points from Jim Maloney, Newburgh Lions lost to Helenians for whom Alf Westwell scored 17. 17 points from Janet Crompton helped Squigglers to a much needed win over Ormskirk Tennis Club for whom Paul Prior contributed 19 points . In spite of 18 points from David Hodgson and 15 from Eric Lupton, Rugby Hounds lost to Whippet by a single point. 

Division 2 :- Gang of Four (who only fielded 3 players) lost their first game of the season going down to Abbey Sinners for whom Bill Gerrard scored 22 and Steve Pilkington 15. Abbey Saints, all of whose players scored in double figures with Barbara Flaherty leading the way with 14, stay second after their win over Legion Lions for whom Adrian Disley scored 13. 19 points from Alan Thompson greatly helped Ormskirk Theatre Company overcome Aughton Institute. 21 points from Jim Dawber was the major factor in Parbold Exiles win over Benchwarmers.
