Highlights Week 20

Division 1 :- 17 points from Sue Perks helped Robin Hood (who managed 3 full house rounds) overcome Greyhound, for whom John Wilson scored 16; Greyhound remain top on points difference. Unison, thanks to16 points each from Alan Gibbs and Darren Martin beat Rugby Hounds, for whom David Hodgson scored 15. 16 points from Bill Gerrard was a significant factor in Turks Head Sinners’ victory over Scarecrows; Janet Crompton scored 15 for Scarecrows. Colly Wobblers, thanks to 16 points from Roy Atherton and 17 from Mike Unsworth, beat Newburgh Lions and hang on to third place. Next week the title will be decided as Greyhound and Unison are both on 32 points and separated by 8 in the point difference column; also the bottom two (Rugby Hounds and Scarecrows) play each other and the loser will finish bottom.

Division 2 :- In a very close game Ormskirk Theatre Company beat Ormskirk Tennis Club; Paul Prior scored 18 for the Tennis Club and Alan Thompson 12 for the winners. Despite 12 points each from Alf Westwell and Mike Flaherty, Helenians lost to Aughton Institute for whom Brian Davies also scored 12. Next week the top two teams, Turks Head Saints and Ormskirk Tennis Club, who are separated by a point, play each other in what could be a title decider.

Merseyside Challenge Cup

Colly Wobblers beat Wings (S&F) 51-38 and move on to the semi-finals, Pat Gibson contributing 19 points. Greyhound and Unison both had close defeats. Greyhound, despite 18 from John Wilson, lost 42-45 to Ringers (Warrington) who now meet Colly Wobblers. Unison lost by one point, 46-47, to Cricketers (Liverpool).

Highlights Week 19

Division 1 :- Greyhound remain top after their win over Scarecrows; Janet Crompton scored 21 for Scarecrows while John Wilson added 15 to Greyhound’s score. Unison played a double header against Turks Head Sinners and won both; as a result they have closed the gap on Greyhound to 2 points. In the scheduled game, despite 19 points from Bill Gerrard, the Sinners lost to Unison, for whom Charles Johnson scored 15. In the postponed game 20 points and a full house from Darren Martin greatly helped Unison overcome Turks Head Sinners, for whom Bill Gerrard this time scored 18. 17 points from Andy McGowan and 18 from Mike Unsworth, ensured Colly Wobblers’ win over Robin Hood - these two teams now occupy third and fourth place with Colly Wobblers slightly ahead on points difference. 18 points from Jim Maloney helped Newburgh Lions overcome Rugby Hounds.

Division 2 :- Turks Head Saints retain top position after beating Bispham Eagles, thanks to 17 points from Kevin Walton. Ormskirk Tennis Club had the narrowest of wins over Helenians; Paul Prior contributed 17 to the Tennis Club’s total and Mike Flaherty added 16 to Helenians score. As a result Ormskirk Tennis Club are second, one point behind the leaders. 12 points each from Rob Green and Mike Wall earned Benchwarmers a victory over Aughton Institute.  18 points from Gordon Richards was a major factor in Ormskirk Theatre Company’s win over Hayfield Gang, for whom Andrew Sackville scored 12.
