Highlights Week 21

Division 1:- Old Dog , with only three players, still managed to beat Newburgh Lions and therefore retain the title; John Wilson scored 23 for Old Dog and Jim Maloney 16 for Newburgh. Unison, for whom Darren Martin scored 19, confirmed second place with a win over Rugby Hounds; David Hodgson scored 16 for the losers. Janet Crompton’s 17 points helped Squigglers halt their long losing run with a win over Robin Hood. Colly Wobblers drew with Farmers Arms for whom Charles Johnson scored 18 points. All four Greyhound players registered double figures as they beat Ormskirk Tennis Club, who remain at the foot of the table.

Division 2:- Abbey Sinners are champions of Division 2 after their comfortable win over Parbold Exiles; Francis Williams scored 18 and Bill Gerrard 15 for the winners. 19 points from Gordon Richards helped Aughton Institute beat Ormskirk Farmers. Whippet, for whom Charlie McAuley scored 15, narrowly beat Ormskirk Theatre Company.

This new event will be held at the Greyhound next Wednesday March 11th from 8 45 pm. Eight players who did not compete in the first competition will take part. Spectators are most welcome.

Highlights Week 20

Division 1:- 19 points from Pat Gibson and 18 from Ray Oakes saw Old Dog secure a comfortable victory over Ormskirk Tennis Club. Unison stay second after their win over Newburgh Lions; all four Unison players made double figure scores, Darren Martin leading the way with an impressive 21 points. With Greyhound not playing, Colly Wobblers move into 3rd place after a win over Squigglers for whom Janet Crompton scored 15. 17 and 16 from David Hodgson and Eric Lupton respectively were a major factor in Rugby Hounds’ win over Farmers Arms. Helenians had a narrow win over Robin Hood, Dave Boyd scored 16 points for the winners.

Division 2:- Abbey Sinners stay top after their win over Benchwarmers. An impressive 54 points from Abbey Saints, with all four players scoring double figures, led by 18 from Barbara Flaherty, saw them comfortable winners over Gang of Four. Red Lion Bulldogs, for whom Steve Garrett scored 16, easily beat Whippet who only had two players. OCC beat Parbold Exiles thanks to an excellent 18 points from Colin Hyson. 

President's Trophy

Ormskirk retained the President's Trophy by winning two games against Southport & Formby. The first game was rearranged from December. Ormskirk won 55-35. Pat Gibson scored 26 points supported by John Wilson 13 and Mike Unsworth 11. In the second game the score was 38-29. The highest scorer in this game was Andy Francis with 11 closely followed by John Wilson on 10.

Highlights Week 19

Division 1:- 15 points from Mike Preston saw Robin Hood victorious over Greyhound. Despite 16 points from David Hodgson, Rugby Hounds lost to Colly Wobblers for whom Mike Unsworth scored 18. Helenians had a narrow and welcome victory over Squigglers; Dave Boyd scored 15 for Helenians as did Janet Crompton for Squigglers. Charles Johnson scored 20 points as Farmers Arms overcame Newburgh Lions; Jim Maloney contributed 18 to Newburgh’s score. Unison had the narrowest of wins over Ormskirk Tennis Club. 

Division 2:- Benchwarmers recorded their second win of the season beating Abbey Saints by a single point; Mike Wall scored 17 and Rob Green 16 for the winners. Gang of Four with only three players overcame Aughton Institute, Eric Moore scoring 17 for Gang of Four. 18 points from Gerard Molyneux was a major factor in Ormskirk Farmers’ win over Red Lion Bulldogs. Abbey Sinners are top after their win over OCC, Bill Gerrard scoring 15 for the winners.

It is third against second next week in Division 2 when Abbey Saints host Gang of Four.

In the Handicap League Abbey Sinners lead by one point from Ormskirk Theatre Company with Farmers Arms two points behind in third.
