Newburgh Lions remain top and unbeaten after their narrow win over Colly Wobblers. Gareth Flynn and Darren Martin each scored 15 and John Purslow 14 for the winners while Roy Atherton and Mike Unsworth both added 16 to Colly Wobblers’ score. 18 points from Charles Johnson and 15 from Kevin Walton earned Turks Head Saints a win over Scarecrows for whom Janet Crompton and Barry Marshall both scored 16 and Magnus Brass 12; as a result the Saints go clear in second place. All four Delph Tavern’s players scored well, namely Paul McAteer and Tom Evans 14 each, Mike Preston 13 and John Fitzgerald 12 and as a result they overcame Hayfield Gang, for whom Martin Burke scored 16. Despite 16 points from Alan Thompson, Ormskirk Theatre Company lost to Turks Head Sinners, for whom Peter Duffy (20), Tony Spark (15) and Bill Gerrard (14) top scored. Greyhound, for whom Ritchie Venner (17), Brian Farrimond (15) and Peter Gateley (14) scored well, overcame Benchwarmers with Rob Green scoring 16 for the losing team. When handicaps were applied all these results were reversed. An impressive 23 points from Eric Lupton and 19 from Tony Robinson saw Rugby Hounds victorious over Helenians; Alf Westwell (13) and Craig Ellison (12) led the scoring for Helenians who earned a draw when handicaps were applied.
