Highlights Week 10

Division 1:- Unison remain top after the closest of victories over Squigglers; Darren Martin scored 20 for the winners and Janet Crompton replied with 16 for Squigglers.  Greyhound and Newburgh Lions played a double header; in the scheduled game Greyhound won thanks to 20 from John Wilson, Jim Maloney (16) and Dave Sinclair (18) led the scoring for Newburgh. In the re-arranged game Newburgh prevailed; Dave Sinclair (17), John Purslow (16) and Jim Maloney (15) were the leading scorers for the Lions while Andy Francis (17) and John Wilson (15) replied for Greyhound. Roy Atherton’s 17 points helped Robin Hood overcome Helenians for whom Dave Boyd scored 15. Despite 17 points from Bill Gerrard, Abbey Sinners lost narrowly to Colly Wobblers. 19 from David Hodgson and 17 from Eric Lupton wasn’t enough for Rugby Hounds to overcome Whippet for whom Debbie Davidson scored 16.

Division 2:- Gang of Four lost for the first time this season, going down to OCC, despite 15 points from Matt Cochrane. Abbey Saints move to one point off the top after their win over Ormskirk Theatre Company; all four Saints players registered double figure scores with Kevin Walton leading with 18 points; Alan Thompson replied with 16 for the Theatre Company. 16 from Bill Becket helped Parbold Exiles overcome Aughton Institute. In the other games Ormskirk Tennis Club lost narrowly to Ormskirk Farmers and Legion Lions beat Benchwarmers thanks to 16 from Steve Garrett.

Merseyside Challenge Cup

The second matches in the group stages saw wins for Colly Wobblers and Abbey Sinners over Liverpool opponents. Colly Wobblers beat Judges by 50 points to 37 thanks to 18 from Mike Unsworth and 17 from Pat Gibson. Abbey Sinners beat Bishop Eton by 44 points to 41 largely due to 22 from Bill Gerrard. Unison lost to Oxton Cons from Wirral by 47 points to 49.

Abbey Sinners have qualified for the quarter finals with one match still to play.

Highlights Week 9

Division 1:- Unison lost their first game of the season but remain top, after losing to Greyhound by the narrowest of margins; John Wilson scored 21 for the winners and Charles Johnson 16 for the losers.  Robin Hood had a comfortable win over Abbey Sinners; all four Robin players earned double figure scores with Carl Rennox leading with 15 points. Newburgh Lions overcame Whippet; Jim Maloney (18) and John Purslow (16) led the scoring for Newburgh while Debbie Davidson replied with 18 points for Whippet. An impressive 22 points from Janet Crompton enabled Squigglers to gain a narrow win over Helenians. Despite 19 points from Pat Gibson, Colly Wobblers lost narrowly to Rugby Hounds for whom David Hodgson scored 18. 

Division 2:- Gang of Four,thanks to 15 points from Andrew Sackville, march on at the top with their ninth consecutive win, this time over Ormskirk Farmers.  An impressive 24 points from Barbara Flaherty helped Abbey Saints to victory over Aughton Institute. An equally impressive 23 points from Paul Prior was a major factor in Ormskirk Tennis Club’s win over Ormskirk Theatre Company for whom Alan Thompson scored 17. Despite 15 points from Rob Green Benchwarmers lost to OCC. 20 points from Steve Garrett enabled Legion Lions to beat Parbold Exiles in a close game.

Highlights Week 8

Division 1:-Unison maintained their 100% record with a comfortable win over Newburgh Lions; Darren Martin (20) and Dave Kenrick (17) led the scoring for Unison. In a closer contest Squigglers, for whom Janet Crompton scored 15, overcame Abbey Sinners. 15 points from Andy Francis helped Greyhound to victory over Helenians. Colly Wobblers beat Whippet  thanks to 21 points from Pat Gibson
