Highlights Week 20

Division 1:- 17 points from Darren Martin and 16 from Jim Maloney earned Newburgh Lions a narrow win over Rugby Hounds, for whom Eric Lupton added 15 points. As a result Newburgh are now in top place. An impressive 22 points from Bill Gerrard and 15 from Peter Duffy earned Turks Head Sinners a win over Colly Wobblers. Greyhound are in second place after their win over Delph Tavern; top scorers were John Wilson with 21 and a full house and Ritchie Venner (15)

Division 2:- Turks Head Saints are still unbeaten, this week prevailing over Ormskirk Theatre Company, thanks largely to an impressive 22 points from Charles Johnson while Alan Thompson replied with 17 points for the losing team.   Scarecrows consolidated second place after their comfortable win over Helenians; Barry Marshall (17) and Magnus Brass (13) top scored for the winners, while Alf Westwell added 13 to Helenians score.

Events

The semifinal and final of the Handicap Knockout will be held on Monday March 25 at the Delph Tavern.

The semifinal and final of the Plate will be held on Monday March 25 at the Turks Head.

The Presentation Night and Pairs Competition will be held on Monday April 8 at Aughton Institute.

Highlights Week 19

Division 1:- Colly Wobblers, for whom Mike Unsworth scored 20, remain top after their win over Rugby Hounds, all of whose players scored in double figures. Newburgh Lions now occupy second place, after their convincing win over Delph Tavern; Darren Martin scored 25 and a full house and Jim Maloney 15 for the winners, while Paul McAteer added 15 to the Delph’s score. Greyhound drew with Turks Head Sinners in which there were some remarkable individual performances, namely John Wilson’s 24 and a full house while Bill Gerrard scored 19 and Peter Duffy scored 17 and a full house for the Sinners. 

Division 2:- Turks Head Saints remain top and unbeaten after their win over Hayfield Gang; top scorers were Charles Johnson’s 20 points and Kevin Walton’s 17 for the winners while Rob Jones added 12 to Hayfield’s score. Gordon Richard’s 22 points earned Ormskirk Theatre Company a draw with Scarecrows, for whom Janet Crompton score 16 and Barry Marshall 13

President’s Trophy

Ormskirk finished the season in second place, two points behind winners Liverpool and one ahead of third place Warrington. In the final matches one point was gained in a narrow defeat to Warrington, 49-51 with 21 points from Pat Gibson. Liverpool were then beaten 47-44 with Pat scoring 17.

Highlights Week 18

Division 1:- Greyhound ceded top of the table after their loss to Newburgh Lions; Darren Martin scored 16 for the winners and John Wilson 17 for Greyhound.   Colly Wobblers, for whom Mike Unsworth scored 16, move to the top  after their win over Delph Tavern. Despite 19 points from Bill Gerrard, Turks Head Sinners lost to Rugby Hounds, for whom Eric Lupton scored 18. 

Division 2:-  An impressive 21 points from Janet Crompton earned Scarecrows a narrow victory over Hayfield Gang, for whom Ann Frank scored 14; as a result Scarecrows assume second place in the table. Despite 16 points from Alan Thompson, Ormskirk Theatre Company lost to Helenians, for whom Mike Flaherty scored 16 and Alf Westwell 13.
