The new season kicked off with champions Greyhound continuing their winning ways with a victory over Delph Tavern (formerly Robin Hood). All of Greyhound’s players registered double figure scores with Mal Collier leading with 15 points, then 13 points each from John Wilson and Lynne Ashcroft, while Sue Perks emulated Mal’s score for the Delph and Tom Evans (13) and Paul McAteer (12) also contributed well, though The Delph won on handicap. 16 points from Ian Barlow and 15 from Mike Unsworth helped Colly Wobblers to a win over Turks Head Sinners for whom Steve Pilkington scored 12. Rugby Hounds, thanks to 16 points from David Hodgson, won the day over Helenians for whom Mike Flaherty and Alf Westwell both scored 14, though Helenians won on handicap. Rob Jones’ impressive 20 points greatly helped Hayfield Gang defeat Ormskirk Theatre Company, with Alan Thompson adding 13 to the losers’ score. Newburgh Lions, thanks to Jim Maloney (14), Darren Martin (13) and Gareth Flynn (12) overcame Turks Head Saints, for whom Charles Johnson scored 13. Newburgh Lions also won on handicap

Colly Wobblers were beaten in the Final by Cricketers (Liverpool) played in person, rather than online. Pat Gibson scored 18 including a full house in a final score of 45-51.

Two Ormskirk teams, Greyhound and Robin Hood, chose to enter this MQL competition for teams finishing in the first three places in Division 1 across all the leagues.
Greyhound played in a four-team group, winning their first match against Bishop Eton (Liverpool) 44-39 led by Ritchie Venner with 17. Defeats followed against Wings (S&F) 44-50, with Ritchie Venner scoring 15, and Oxton Cons (Wirral) 35-50.
Robin Hood played in a three-team group losing to Fisherman's Rest (S&F) 38-42 and Cricketers (Liverpool) 40-56, despite 18 from Paul McAteer.

John Wilson (Greyhound) was in a team that beat the Eggheads winning a share of £13000. They had all four in the final against Pat Gibson winning in sudden death.

Jim passed away at the end of last week after a spell in hospital. He played for Bispham Eagles in the early weeks of the season until he had a fall and suffered fractured ribs.
He was regularly amongst the highest scorers in Division Two in recent seasons and was team secretary from 1990 when the team was known as Windmill.
Team secretaries have details of the funeral.
I thought of Jim last night when Clive Gregory, the secretary of Bispham Eagles, won the Pairs Competition.
