HIghlights Week 18

Division 1:- In the top of the table clash Unison lost narrowly to Greyhound for whom John Wilson scored 18 points; Darren Martin replied with 15 for Unison. Unison remain top, two points ahead of Greyhound, who have one more match to play. 22 points and a ‘full house’ from Pat Gibson was a major factor in Colly Wobblers’ win over Rugby Hounds. 16 points each from Barbara Phillips (playing only her fourth game)  and Sue Perks was enough to ensure Robin Hood’s victory over Abbey Sinners. Helenians made it four wins out the last five games after their victory over Squigglers. 16 points each from Debbie Davidson and Gordon Richards helped Whippet overcome Newburgh Lions for whom Jim Maloney scored 15; as a result Whippet win the Handicap League so congratulations to them.

Division 2:- Congratulations to Ormskirk Tennis Club who are champions after their win over Ormskirk Theatre Company; Paul Prior scored 18 for the winners. Gang of Four finish in second place after beating Ormskirk Farmers; all four Gang of Four players registered double figure scores. Abbey Saints, thanks to 15 from Kevin Walton, beat Aughton Institute. 17 points from Mike Wall helped Benchwarmers to a draw with OCC.

MIMIR Trophy

Pat Gibson (Colly Wobblers) won the Ormskirk MIMIR Trophy for the sixth time when he beat Alan Gibbs (Unison) in last Wednesday's final by one point. Ritchie Venner (Greyhound) came third in his first appearance. Charles Johnson (Unison) was fourth. The finalists plus Paul Prior (Ormskirk Tennis Club) and David Kenrick (Unison) qualify to represent Ormskirk in the Merseyside round in March.

Highlights Week 17

Division 1:-  Unison stay top after their win over Newburgh Lions; Alan Gibbs contributed 15 points to Unison’s score. 18 points from David Hodgson assured Rugby Hounds’ win over Robin Hood. 15 points from Janet Crompton wasn’t quite enough for Squigglers who lost narrowly to Abbey Sinners. Colly Wobblers, thanks to 18 from Pat Gibson and 15 from Andy McGowan overcame Whippet for whom Gordon Richards scored 15. 

Division 2:- Ormskirk Tennis Club remain top after beating Aughton Institute; Paul Prior scored 22 for the winners.  Despite 16 points from Alan Thompson Ormskirk Theatre Company lost to Gang of Four, who remain in second place. Abbey Saints are one point behind in third place after their win over Legion Lions for whom Steve Garrett scored 16.  In the other games OCC beat Ormskirk Farmers and Benchwarmers won narrowly against Parbold Exiles.

Final two weeks

With two weeks to go the Division One title is between Unison and Greyhound who play each other next week. The battle for the fifth and final place in mini-league 1A is between Rugby Hounds and Robin Hood, who play this week, and Whippet.

In Division Two there are three contenders for the title, Ormskirk Tennis Club, Gang of Four and Abbey Saints. Fifth place is between Parbold Exiles, Ormskirk Theatre Company and Legion Lions, who have a game in hand. Exiles and Lions play each other next week.

The Handicap League title is between Newburgh Lions and Whippet who play each other next week.

The mini-leagues begin on February 20 with all teams starting on zero.

Highlights Week 16

Division 1:-  Unison stay top in spite of losing to Helenians, who recorded their third win out of four. Greyhound remain second after their win over Abbey Sinners; the leading scorers were John Wilson (Greyhound) and Bill Gerrard (Abbey Sinners) with 18 points each. Despite 18 from Jim Maloney, Newburgh Lions lost narrowly to Colly Wobblers. Rugby Hounds, for whom David Hodgson scored 20, had a comfortable win over Squigglers. In the other game Whippet lost to Robin Hood

Division 2:- A massive 29 points from Paul Prior ensured Ormskirk Tennis Club’s win over Legion Lions for whom Steve Garrett scored 21; the Tennis Club remain top. Despite only having three players Gang of Four overcame Aughton Institute; Rob Jones (16) and Eric Moore (17) led the scoring for the Gang of Three!  In the other games OCC beat Parbold Exiles, Ormskirk Farmers beat Ormskirk Theatre Company and Benchwarmers, for whom Mike Wall scored 16, lost to Abbey Saints.
