Don Liptrot Trophy

Round 1 Summary

The highlight of the first round was the victory by Ormskirk Theatre Company on their debut in the competition. They beat Abbey Saints without the need for the handicap.

Rugby Hounds had overcome the handicap by half time, then Red Lion (Burscough) fought back in the second half. With two questions remaining the scores were level, but the first division team just managed to win.

They now meet their local rivals Whippet who produced a good all round team performance to beat three man Unison.

Highest scorers with 22 points were Darren Martin (Unison) and Paul Prior (Ormskirk Tennis Club). Alan Gibbs (Wheatsheaf) scored 20 points which included answering 6 of his own questions. Bill Gerrard (Colliers Arms) and Eric Lupton (Rugby Hounds) also got 6 of their own questions.

Round 2 together with Round 1 of the Plate will be played on Monday April 8th.

Week 22

Highlights
Div 1 Old Dog won the battle of the top two comfortably to clinch the title from a depleted Unison. Greyhound's thrashing of Robin Hood was insufficient to catch Wheatsheaf who clinch 3rd place. Abbey Saints and Newburgh Lions remain stranded at the bottom. Highest score of the week was Charles Johnson's 23 in their 1 point defeat to Squigglers.
In Div 2 comfortable wins for the top two sees Gang of Four pipping Ormskirk Tennis Club to the title. With some lower scores on Tuesday's questions, there were one point wins for Whippet over Parbold Exiles and Red Lion (Burscough) over Ormskirk Theatre Company.
