Presentation Night

The Function Room at the Stanley Arms in Aughton was the venue for this season's Presentation Night which began with four handouts, a mixture of picture quizzes and lists to complete. Twenty six players who chose to play in the Pairs Competition were divided into two pools based on average scores over the season. One name was drawn from each pool to form thirteen pairs. The first round of 40 questions were read out and the pairs wrote down their answers.

Three pairs scored 30 or more. A tie break question for the five pairs who scored 29 produced the final three qualifiers for the semi final. The qualifiers were Jim Maloney (Newburgh Lions) and Bob Foster (Helenians), Bill Gerrard (Turks Head Sinners) and Andy McGowan (Colly Wobblers), Darren Martin (Newburgh Lions) and Steve Pilkington (Turks Head Sinners), Eric Lupton and Tony Robinson (both Rugby Hounds), Roy Atherton(Colly Wobblers) and Gareth Flynn (Newburgh Lions), Dave Waddilove (Turks Head Sinners) and Alf Westwell (Helenians).

Questions were asked in turn to the pairs who each had three 'lives'. After 60 questions the three finalists were Jim and Bob, Eric and Tony, Dave and Alf.

Each pair had their 'lives' reset to three. After 27 questions Jim and Bob emerged as winners.

Trophies were presented to successful teams. Photos are here.

A raffle raised £51 for Age UK Lancashire.

Thanks to the staff at the Stanley Arms for their assistance in ensuring a successful evening and to the Southport & Formby League for sharing the writing of all the questions.
