Highlights Week 22

Division 1 :- 15 points each from Andy McGowan and Mike Unsworth helped Colly Wobblers to a win over Greyhound, for whom John Wilson scored 16. 18 points from Janet Crompton and 15 from Barry Marshall assured Squigglers’ victory over Abbey Saints. Despite a massive 25 points from Paul Prior, Ormskirk Tennis Club lost to Unison, for whom Darren Martin scored an equally impressive 24 points. Robin Hood beat Helenians; Paul Coffey scored 15 for Robin Hood.

Division 2 :- Ormskirk Farmers lost to Abbey Sinners for whom Bill Gerrard scored 18 and Francis Williams 13. 16 points from Alan Thompson aided Ormskirk Theatre Company’s success over Gang of Four. 16 points from Steve Garrett assured Legion Lions’ victory over Benchwarmers, Mike Wall scoring 12 for the losers. Bispham Farmers Arms, thanks to 16 from Jim Dawber and 12 from Dave Cockram won the day over Douglas Valley Lions.

President’s Shield /Presidential Challenge

In a playoff to decide the winner of the President’s Shield Ormskirk played Wirral. After 8 rounds each team had 48 points. After round 9 each team had 53 points. At that stage the captains agreed that there should be joint winners. Bill Gerrard scored 18 points, well supported by Alan Thompson with 15. Congratulations also to regular team members Alf Westwell and Francis Williams.

In the Presidential Challenge Ormskirk lost to Warrington in the semifinal by one point, 52 to 53 with Bill again scoring highly with 21. Wirral comfortably won the final 61-46.

Highlights Week 21

Division 1 :- In a game that was very tight for the first five rounds, Unison ran away with it in the last three to win comfortably over Newburgh Lions; Darren Martin was the highest scorer with 16 points. Despite a massive 25 points from Paul Prior, Ormskirk Tennis Club lost to Greyhound for whom John Wilson scored 19. 15 points from Mike Flaherty wasn’t enough to prevent Helenians losing to Whippet.   In the other game Robin Hood beat Squigglers by the narrowest of margins.

Division 2 :- Bill Gerrard’s 16 points was the difference in Abbey Sinners’ win over Rugby Hounds. Despite 17 points from Steve Garrett, a three man Legion Lions lost to Bispham Farmers Arms, for whom Jim Dawber scored 12. 13 points from Jim Gray enabled Aughton Institute’s narrow win over newcomers Douglas Valley Lions. Ormskirk Farmers, thanks to 15 from Dave Berrington won the day against Gang of Four; Rob Jones scored 13 for the losers.
