Merseyside Challenge Cup

Both Ormskirk teams were beaten in the quarter final. Unison just lost to Judges from Liverpool 40 to 42. Colly Wobblers were beaten 35 to 44 by Oxton Cons from the Wirral League.

Highlights Week 18

Division 1:- 16 points and 15 points from Ray Oakes and John Wilson respectively saw Old Dog home against Robin Hood for whom Roy Atherton scored 17. Despite 16 from Janet Crompton, Squigglers poor run of form continued as they went down to Rugby Hounds for whom David Hodgson scored 18 and Eric Lupton 15. Despite 18 points from Jim Maloney Newburgh Lions’ recent run of success was halted by Colly Wobblers. Greyhound, for whom Mal Collier scored 16, beat Helenians. Farmers Arms staged a remarkable comeback against Ormskirk Tennis Club to win by one point; Charles Johnson scored 23 for Farmers Arms

Division 2:- With Abbey Sinners not playing, Gang of Four took the opportunity and moved to the top of the table with a win over Ormskirk Theatre Company for whom Alan Thompson scored 15.  A good all round team performance, with all four players scoring double figures, saw Abbey Saints home against Aughton Institute. Jim Dawber’s 18 points ensured Parbold Exile’s victory against a three man Ormskirk Farmers for whom Gerard Molyneux scored 16. Despite 15 points from Rob Green, Benchwarmers lost to OCC.

President's Trophy

Last Wednesday Ormskirk beat Warrington 53-33,  Pat Gibson leading the way with 20 points well supported by Mike Unsworth (13) and John Wilson (11). This week Ormskirk beat Liverpool 40-33, Pat again top scoring with 21. The final games are both against Southport & Formby on February 25th at the Greyhound when the title will be decided.

Highlights Week 17

Division 1:- No change at the top as Old Dog beat Helenians (John Wilson and Ray Oakes scoring 16 points each for the winners) and Unison, thanks to 15 from Peter Duffy, beat Robin Hood. Greyhound move into third, all four players scoring double points, after their win over Squigglers. Jim Maloney’s 25 points was a major factor in Newburgh Lions’ close win over Rugby Hounds for whom David Hodgson scored 16.

Division 2:- Abbey Sinners stay top after their win over Ormskirk Farmers, Bill Gerrard scoring 21 for the winners. A good all round team performance saw Gang of Four victorious over Red Lon Bulldogs and keeps them in second place just ahead of Abbey Saints who had a narrow win over Ormskirk Theatre Company. Aughton Institute, thanks to 16 from Gordon Richards, beat Benchwarmers.
